What causes elevated triglyceride levels?

High triglyceride levels may be caused by health conditions like diabetes, hypothyroidism, kidney disease, or liver disease. Dietary causes of high triglyceride levels may include drinking a lot of alcohol, and eating foods containing cholesterol, saturated fat, and trans fat.

I have high Triglycerides but I have more good cholesterol than bad cholesterol

salute you can replace rice. I take it for bf, must add so many raisin then I think more harm than good

I take it in place of rice for lunch especially if i skip breakfast. But sometimes both meals.
Breakfast : sometimes with nuts, sometimes a banana. Or cocoa powder with a little manuka, or cocoa with low / no fat yoghurt.

Why salute for taking it in place of rice? It's easy cos you get the taste of the chicken/ pork/ fish/ sauce with it.

I think the brand of the oats matter. Cos a couple of days ago the oats tasted yucky. I asked the helper why like that. She said that she bought a different one

My cholesterol above 5.20 (202mg/dL) before I hit 30. How to reduce ? I like to eat seafood , eggs. This week for one day I accidentally ate 4 eggs
Cut fried food, reduce seafood, reduce red meat. Take more steamed food with less oil, salt and sugar (steam yourself), then have solely rolled oat for dinner, and no other food after 7pm. Plus start exercising 3 times a week.

will not try if need high dose. statin serve me well without much side effect.

Yes high dose has side effects, need doc to prescribe, not encourage to buy otc. I am thinking at least it is vitamin, safer than a medication like statin, so asking here to see if anyone tried.

Did your doc share with you the long term side effect of statin? My doc didn't say, but I don't like the idea of taking medication for whole life, so seeking alternative. At least niacin can help to block liver from producing excess cholesterol, this is what I want.

to raise HDL (good cholesterol), exercise
to lower LDL (bad cholesterol), keep saturated fat to below 10g, eat lots of (soluble) fibre

can try psyllium husk supplement to boost your soluble fibre intake to lower LDL.

go read up reddit r/cholesterol... lots of resources there

I was watching this NZ doctor who evaluates all the medical research.

He is taking Statin even without high cholesterol and the reasoning is statin is a proven drug with very low side effect. Only 1/2 percent has the muscle ache side effect.

I think the main reason for regular blood test beside testing for safety is to check whether it's effective, because some people don't have any reaction to statins.

The correct level to cholesterol is as low as possible because any increase means higher chance of plaque to form at your blood vessels which is permanent and can eventually lead to a heart attack. Forming slowly is still forming.

The part about Statin is for profit also don't hold water, generic versions are available very cheap, in JB it's RM20 for one month supply. I believe it's equally cheap at the polyclinics. :o

Recently did body checkup, despite taking fish oil for few years still high cholesterol. Thinking of go JB buy some med. Can someone advice which med the best. Many thanks.
Many doctors fail to address the true causes of LDL, the "firefighter" produced by our body to fight the flames. It’s like hiding a termite problem behind a nice picture until it’s too late.
