Why not enough?

Huawei always release near end of year and they're only able to match the performance of Snapdragon chip from earlier of the year. Just few months away Snapdragon 855 will be out and Kirin 980 will be beaten to ground. Not to mention that Kirin GPU has been lacklustre compared to Snapdragon's offering. Recent benchmark shows Kirin 980 GPU just managed to only equal that of S835 if I remember correctly.

Speaking with my current phone, a Mate 10. Sometimes can feel like it got bottlenecked. Sometimes in games where the GPU can't keep up, sometimes when switching task it will lag and stuck for a second or two.

The AI stuff Huawei been advertising too... There was one review that I read on that earlier defining the AI processing power for the CPU in market. Huawei 980 is just slightly ahead of Snapdragon 845. Next Gen Qualcomm is going to include a dedicated unit. Guess it will then beat Huawei all the way again. Good thing is Huawei advertised it and used it the way it should so the consumers know what that thing is for. Other snapdragon phones like never advertise so much on the AI processing capability. It is also behind in Video encoding and ISP compared to Snapdragon equivalent not to mention that it does something like the slow-mo with software trick rather than having real hardware support.

tl;dr
Huawei chipset is good but not the best. Quite a distance from Qualcomm, even more so from Apple. Enough for normal use but for some advanced users, you will know where the limits are. The pricing for Huawei phones also quite good but not the best best best CP ratio especially when last time Snapdragon flagship chipsets used to be reserved only for the expensive flagships from each brands but now you can get it quite cheap at just like $400 bracket.

GPU wise, Qualcomm always have an edge which also seems to make their flagship faster than competition since the benchmarks test the SOC as a whole. While I will not surprise if SN 855 will perform better when it is released, I don't believe that the Kirin 980 will be significantly slower. SD 855 is expected to be faster because of the more aggressive clockspeed with the same A76 performance cores.

In terms of AI wise, I don't believe one unit with dedicated NPU is just a little faster than an SOC without. If that is the case, I don't think Qualcomm will bother to include an NPU in their 855. It will depend on the test that is performed for NPUs to shine. Normal workload wise, clearly the NPU may not make a huge difference if any at all. FYI, Google Pixel uses a Snapdragon SOC, and heavily advertises on AI as well. Current SD 845 have no AI/ NPU capability, which is the reason it is not advertised. This is a simple logic.

Also I can tell you that a "normal user" (which I don't know what is your definition) don't even need a Kirin 980. And whatever is an "advance user" seriously won't consider using phones to do any serious work no matter how fast they are. This point could be debatable if you are discussing Apple's SOC. But for all Android phones SOCs, they pretty much stick to the ARM standard design with some tweaks here and there. Difference in performance is not going to be like 1.5x faster if you consider the entire SOC's performance and not looking only at graphics.

Long story short, I don't buy your pro Qualcomm, bash Kirin and other SOC maker argument. But of course, you are feel to support whichever you want since the money is yours to spend. Anyway, I look forward to seeing how well a SD 855 performs when it gets launched in a phone.

If your mate 10 still under warranty then battery will be covered under warranty.

It is a surprising pleasure using Mate 20 now instead of Mate 10. Can feel loads of improvement.

Don't think that's the case. Only in the case that the battery totally fail and will not turn on because of battery or let say the battery can only keep very very little juice and turn off after extremely short period. Otherwise if let say the battery capacity is 80% of original battery life, it's more like normal wear and tear. Don't think any manufacturer will honour that. Can try la but IMO won't succeed :D :D
