And you need to open the actual app itself to get the messages in?

Mine is just power the screen it will all come in, it's like turning on the screen to tell the phone to wake up lol. Then I will get the notification of new emails or msgs from Carousell. But if it comes in not too long after standby, it will still receive fine.

Yup. Need to open the app itself lol. I kinda got used to it already though. Now it's a habit to check the app every now and then after leaving the phone untouched for some time.

Set the settings -> battery -> launch -> WhatsApp into manual. Anyway mine is set to automatic and yet all WhatsApp and wechat also FB messenger have no problem instantly receive messages/calls. I am using mate 10 pro.

My Mate 10 no issue too. Did you check under the app notification?

I'm not new to Android leh... The first thing I do when I get new phone is always to go through phone settings, and app settings. I checked for all possible configs and settings already. I've put many apps on manual management and letting them run in the background already. Also, I made sure to open all these apps at least once after every phone restart.

The only time I no issue with WhatsApp and other third party app notifications is when I'm constantly on the phone and constantly using those apps. Otherwise when the phone is put aside and left untouched for some time, msgs (to me) don't get delivered, no notifications etc until I open those apps. The only things that are working smoothly and well are the default Huawei apps.

But then I've learned to live with it liao. Doesn't really matter that much to me anymore, but it's something that puts my mom off Huawei phones even though she's tempted to get one for the cam quality.

Ya she using Sony Xperia all the way. But now she gian my phone cam ma, after seeing the photos I took with Mate10.

I have the same issue since almost half a year ago.

manual or auto in battery management settings dont really matter for my case :/
Should I have known about this before buying the phone I would have steered clear of huawei phones. This is a major turnoff for me

Factory reset and see got change or not..this is not practical.

I dont have WhatsApp notifications issue. It even show me the WhatsApp icon when I already muted the chat group. The icon will appear and disappear in a few secs.

XZ2 camera quality still below par compared with other flagships, certainly Mate 10 / P20.

mine is P10plus. you may try

Phone Manager -> Close apps on screen lock -> unclick WhapsApp (any apps you want it to operate after screen is locked)

So are there any workarounds for this aggressive battery management?

Yeah. You can download Brave browser and it can still use the bottom bar

I think as long as auto-launch is still enabled, the app should work.

Try these on mate 10 pro.
Settings
Apps & notifications.
Apps
WhatsApp
1) notifications. Allow all.
2) battery. Launch. Manage manually. This can also be found in battery settings launch.

Do these for all ur messaging apps or those you want to be 24x7.
