aiyo the moment you are using Huawei phone models newer than mate 30 series, you should stop relying on GMS especially when the Google pay cannot be used at all
that's why I'm with mate 20 x and mate 30 pro, the latter for the design, the former is a gift from my wife

Huawei reportedly approached two Asian chip suppliers, MediaTek and UNISOC to secure more chipsets after the U.S blocked its access to overseas chips "that are the direct product of certain U.S software and technology". TSMC also stopped taking new chip orders from Huawei to comply with the U.S trade restrictions. Earlier this month, Huawei confirmed that it cannot manufacture Kirin processors beyond 15 September and its existing stocks of processors can only last for the launch of its next flagship phone.

=====

IC, hardware, software all under restriction. SoC running out in 30 days.

I don't see a point in carrying 2 phones.

Frankly speaking, I'm into it because of the camera and not even for the processor.

But unfortunately, I have to take all things into consideration and I'm unsure if it would be more of an inconvenience instead of an upgrade :(

Anyone here not using GMS?

Personally my biggest issue for jumping from 30 Pro to 40 Pro + is not being able to backup / restore WhatsApp massages.

My 2nd biggest issue is I play clash royale and make in-app purchases via Google playstore.

I don't mind using HMS as long as my concerns can be resolved and I understand that I can use phone clone function from old phone to new phone but I doubt it'll solve the above issues.

For existing GMS users, how many times have GMS stopped working for you? And do you need to re-install GMS again?

Thats the hassle that I'm unsure if I'm willing to go through :(

1. Clone WhatsApp from p30 pro to p40 pro+

2. But I can't restore the old messages from p30 pro correct?

3. What you're showing me now is subsequent messages that you back up after using mate 30 pro correct?

shioks!

always great when what you see is what you get lol

google photos working well?

I don't use google photos so can't comment. Have to download a separate package to get google calendar running. All is well so far with day 1 of real use.

business calendar pro or
business calendar 2

you can create different accounts of calendar and backup them in your phone or nano card so that you can restore them on another phone

been using the Pro version for 9 years

Thanks. I prefer cloud sync. Used to use standalone and backed up on phone- when i dropped my s7 and the lcd leaks and render it completely useless until I paid $230 to get a screen repaired, I decided there and then I die die need to put it n cloud and be able to sync.

Very simple. Just follow the youtube video.
Took me about half an hour. I was lucky that my phone was always going on a step by step as per video, the success, the snags.

Now I am wondering which calendar to use. The previous 3rd party calendar I used in place of google seemed not to be able to sync with google calendar now.

You got it to work?
I can't get it to work on my p40 Pro. I tried alot of other YT videos and none seem to be working

2) Incorrect.

If you side load GMS and do a backup to google drive, when you install a new copy of watsapp, they will ask you if you want to restore your watsapp chats and images, if you said yes, they will automatically restore your chats from the google drive.
I did this yesterday and got my chats from my samsung S7 transferred to my p40pro.

If you decide not to do GMS, you can restore if manually. Huawei consumer page have steps how to restore your watsapp messages from older to newer phone. That method works too- I used that method to transfer my watsapp chats when migrating from Nokia Music Express to Samsung S3 back in 2011 and have been using it when I upgraded my Samsungs/root it/flash another firmware.

Yes, got it to work. Today day 1 of actual use since it's a work day, used my google map, calendar and facebook while travelling to and fro office =)

As the presenter mentioned in the link I posted earlier, the most important question is: What is the version of the software you are running? If you have upgraded your firmware since unboxing, sorry. You have to wait till next GMS workaround release.
If you super suay and got 'newer stocks' while M1 happened to sell me an older stock, sorry, you also have to wait.

Hmm.. Just to be clear, is huawei cloud an option to backup restore WhatsApp msg

Or the only solution is to purchase a nano card and backup my msgs onto it and manually xfer it onto WhatsApp?

Hmm, I get what you mean liao.

Still deciding between the GMS route or use it as it is.

Trust me when I tell you that I would love to use hms on its own as intended because i dont want to be too reliant on the same os but for gamers whose games can't be found on app gallery or petal search (eg Clash Royale), even after I clone app, I will still have issues like updates and whatnots :(

I don't know as I don't use its cloud service
Many thanks again for all your help and contributions, at the very least, the biggest concern of mine has been addressed.

I'll get the p40 pro+... Just still considering between gms or hms lol

I never help much

since Google pay (paywave) can't be used on non GMS Huawei phones, find it pointless to install GMS based on my non gaming usage
my wife used to game MLBB on mate 30 pro without GMS, and I installed that game in apk for her, no worries even never update

Hmm, i totally forgot about pay wave.

Currently using my p30 pro for ez link card.

So I guess it's better that use GMS instead then.
