Anyone knows how to get a compatible battery working on a X200? :s22:

Just received it from the ebay seller and when I put it into the laptop, it recognizes the battery (battery level at 44%) but then it doesn't start charging :(

Seller offered to resend/refund but I have to ship it back to China at my own expense so trying to see if I can get it to work first..

Have no experience on X200 but you may want to try this trick. An experienced battery seller taught me this. Hope it works on you though...

1) Charge it for 8 hours
2) Use it till 0%
3) Charge it 2nd time for 8 hours
4) Use it till 0% again
5) Charge it again and see if it goes up to 100%
6) Test how fast the battery level drops

Else, it might be a faulty battery.

But when I put the battery in, it doesn't start charging leh. So how to charge to 100%? :s22: It just stays at 44% :s22:

Use up the 44% first till flat and start charging 0% and see how much it charges after that...

Which of the current Thinkpads available at the NUS Computer Centre is better for someone who doesn't play a lot of games and is just using it for surfing, e-mailing and some financial analysis? They say they're out of the T410, so it's between the X201S and W510. Can't really wait until August when the new academic year starts, otherwise would wait to buy another T-series.

Can't post links, sorry.

Thanks for the help!

Depends on your needs; do you need to move around alot or stationary at one place most of the times. Since you NUS student, my advice is to get the X201S. W510 is too heavy and bulky to move around with it.

For me personally, I would get neither and look for something else.

Thanks - what would you recommend? I saw the T420 'promotions' for the PC show and they don't strike me as being good value. I also thought the X201s was better, but it's a bit expensive ($2445 from NUS). Would buy something bulkier and cheaper, use the money to get some accessories.

anyone know how much it cost for replacing a motherboard for T61?

Hey there,

Relating to my experience on a faulty T43 board, even if IBM Changi may still have parts, the repair price could proof to be a challenge.

For several reliable repair shops who has the knowledge to handle ThinkPads, I was quoted between $120 to $280 for a used ThinkPad board with installation.

For my case, I decided to buy another T43 with 3 months warranty given at $450.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, agree with omar that replacing motherboard by local repair shops is expensive. Other options are to 1) repair in malaysia or 2) buy a board from ebay. Just make sure you got the FRU right. Then ask the shop to replace it for you, just pay labour cost.

[Enquiry] Singtel X61 HSDPA problem with M1 Sim Card

Hi Guys, just like to run a check if any bros here still using a Singtel X61 w Integrated HSDPA modem with M1 Broadband on Mobile Sim Card?

My X61 does not detect the sim card and keep prmpting No Sim Detected/Inserted.

However, when i put in my Starhub and Singtel sim card into the X61, it is able to detect and surf at 3G speed without any problem. Likewise, i tested the M1 sim card in my Ipad and Iphone, all work well.

The only problem combo is X61 + M1 sim card, no sim detected.

Could it be that the Integrated Modem is locked to reject M1 sim card and only accept Singtel and Starhub? Or is there some configuration setting that i must do on the X61 to detect the M1 sim card?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.:(

This is just my guess so it may not be true but..

It works on SingTel SIM card because the APN is configured for SingTel.
It works on StarHub SIM card because StarHub SIM cards do not require any APN configuration to work.
It does not work on M1 SIM card because M1 SIM cards require APN configuration but it is not configured on your machine.

Thanks for the reply. I just looked into this also and found a link below and i followed the recommeded setting. Still my X61 prompt "No Sim card present...."

http://lesterchan.net/blog/2010/09/11/singtel-starhub-m1-apn-settings/

I tried the 3G Watcher connection utility from Sierra Wireless and i got similar warning, "No Sim detected"

Reall sian....:(

I may not have any straight solution for you but 2 of my office clients are using

That X61 came with the Singtel promo, and no it was not locked to any provider.

Perhaps M1 can help you out in this maybe by issuing you another simcard?

X61 running on Sierra with M1 data simcard.

PS: I use to have a 'china' phone that refused to run on M1 sim card too.

Hope that helps.

Hi Omar, thanks for the infor. I too believe it should not be locked. Yeah looks like i'll have to visit M1 for a replacement sim card. Thanks again:)
