Ikea products are paying for designs lol not really quality...

Sent from LG G4 using GAGT

Depends. True if you go for their lowest end stuff, mostly hollow disposable pieces. I wouldn't expect those to last. I would only get for a short-term need, or if one is not yet sure of investing in a long-term piece of furniture yet. Like my place, we didn't want to spend on $$$$ on built-in bookshelves, so just bought cheap Billy bookcases @ $60-$80 each. 5 years evaluate again, maybe move house by then or what.

Mid-range and up, if you're smart about what you buy, it's possible to get some durable basic pieces. E.g., Their solid wood stuff can age quite well. I have a IVAR shelf unit, using since sec sch days (more than 15 years old), use until today, heavy textbooks and all, zero warp.

Honeycomb support actually quite strong.

No doubt, but the material used has to be considered.

Overtime, degradation due to humidity and weight shift will cause it to deform. Honeycomb integrity breaks, table warp or collapse. lol.

This style table top is not really wood. Air + cardboard :s13:

DSC_8988.jpg

:s22: seems like risk of fire if the table top put induction cooker or electric kettle~

honeycomb cardboard really can support desktop plus monitor and other stuffs??

Support is can support, it's rated up to 50kg spread out load. My point was that if you are smart about where you place the load (closer above the legs), and place a 3rd support leg in the middle, you can reduce potential sagging. It will last longer. Technically they only suggest this for the longest width, but if you do for the shorter widths you have even less to worry about.

I have the previous gen top, I think inside also similar construction, been using for more than 12 years. Very very minor warp, not visible to the eyes, I could only tell when I put it flat on the floor. Have about 30-40kg load on it. At that time, I got it with the trestle legs cos that allows you to put the supporting point even closer to the center. It's quite easy to see which is more likely to sag.

A lot of times, people buy cos cheap but they don't use common sense when placing the load. Or may be rough with it cos cheap ma. So over time, confirm will sag. You can prevent that with some basic pointers.

go some 2nd hand shop... thy got sell gd & cheap table.

I am not sure where to find 2nd hand shop. Never bought 2nd hand furniture before. But if looks ok will consider 2nd hand.

Btw I not looking for super durable table that can last like 10 yrs. I just need something to see me through abt a year. Might be changing computer setup after that. Maybe smart loading the table with the cpu case right above the linnmon table legs is the way to go like what some of u have suggested. The other thing is will desk lose paint or color easily in like 1 or 2 months ? I like to place coffee cup on desk when reading news in morning.

Where can still buy Sitoca Table?

I got 2 Sitoca Table at home.
Still bloody solid.

In the old days, some of the computer neighborhood shops do have the service to order the table.
Nowadays, I hardly see any have them.
On their Sitoca Website.
http://sitoca.com.sg/resellers/
I only saw Challenger Funan but I doubt they still have them.
Else give Sitoca office a call.

Hi anyone here use ikea linnmon table as a computer desk ? Is it strong enough to put a mid tower computer case on it ? Ikea website says the top is finished using acrylic paint, does it scratch and wear off easily ? Anyone using this table can leave some comments on this ?

The tables in this series are very cheap but they don't last.

Problems I've experienced include

1. water damage (bloat)
2. wobbly legs
3. surface wear

$10-$15 per year of usage is a very good deal. How many days of cell phone service does that buy?

I used to have 2 Sitoca tables. They are durable as hell. Only cons is that they are quite ugly. Moving the table around also very challenging since they can be quite heavy.

In the end I left the tables in my old house when I shifted to a new place.

Yes. Water is the killer. I have their $19.90 Lack tables. Kena water never immediately wipe away, u will then see a large "bubble" that pops up in the middle of the table. Luckily they are only $19.90, so got excuse to throw away and buy a new one

I think vHive's computer tables are much better. The price not too ex also. At least I kena water on them a few times and dun see any water damage so far.

sitoca is hardcore man... but my computer desk isn't made of metal, so don't dare to put a monitor stand (clamp kind). insai ish sawdust. I always dismantle the tables before moving. :D

Particleboard? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Particle_board

Particle board, also known as particleboard and chipboard, is an engineered wood product manufactured from wood chips, sawmill shavings, or even sawdust, and a synthetic resin or other suitable binder, which is pressed and extruded.

Clamp mount I think can support, but I would put extra pieces of wood/metal to prevent the table surface from being gouged.

I'm still on vHive's tempered glass table for my computer desk. 5 years running, no defects or anything. The only downside is regular maintenance coz dust accumulated on a black tempered glass top is much more visible than on regular wooden top.
