if often come with contact with water how

If you want to play rough with a cheap table top, don't expect it to last long.

I think swelling/bubbling is common if you let water sit too long. It will seep through. If you wipe soon after exposure, should be okay.

Even solid wood table, kenna water also will have some swelling, water marks. Although it should go down. If severe can even warp.

I bought mine with a veneer top, seems more durable than the basic version. Veneer is basically a thin slice of actual wood. I usually use coasters, but did forget now and then. Some light swelling, then went down after dried.

Use common sense, use coasters, etc. If must be in contact with water very often, get a glass table lo :s13:

Just a question for all you pros here.

I'm almost sure I would be getting this Alex table:
http://www.ikea.com/sg/en/catalog/products/80260715/

Only problem is my Xb271HU stand is god forsaken ugly and takes up an insane amount of space. I would like to mount it. Instead of using the clamp mount, can i use the flange mount on this desk?

And if so, are there any recommendations on where I can get a decent mount for a decent price (<100 sgd if possible). Single monitor but can move around like the LX Desk Mount:

Flange mount meaning drill through? Then the drawers how? You have to permanently remove one? My 2cents... If you must have that table, live with the stock stand or look for wall mount. If you must have this mount, get a table more suited for it. E.g. No drawers.

Other than the structural issues, will your table be up against a wall? It's quite shallow at 60cm, won't the monitor be in your face, lol.

Yea flange mount means a drill through. I'm not sure how the flange works but yea sacrificing one drawing seems to be the only way. Or as you mentioned, a table with no drawers (really like the design of the alex desk though)

And yes the table will be up against the wall so it is quite shallow which is even more a reason why the monitor stand must go haha

I'm currently using the XB271HU at 40cm but maybe 50cm would be more ideal:)

Feels like a monitor mount won't necessarily buy you more depth at all. With the alex, if you drill through, it won't be so close to the edge of the table cos there's a movable panel there.

I usually dun buy cheap furniture from ikea cos the quality is really bad.
If u want to buy from ikea, pls get those medium price range which i feel is more value for the money vs the quality.

If u dun mind second office table. They usually are cheaper and come with solid top.

Bought L tables from them. I find the table top and really solid for the price.

How about choosing their dinning table instead?
TÄRENDÖ Table, black $49

tarendo-table-black__0241636_PE381441_S4.JPG

Length: 110 cm
Width: 67 cm
Height: 74 cm

There is supporting steel under-frame which should be able deter table-top warping.. (No max weight indication thou) :s13:

Source: http://www.ikea.com/sg/en/catalog/products/S79000484/

Pay extra $20/- for longer and wider table..
MELLTORP Table, white $69

(I think this series is already being used as computer table.. Source:

)

Some of the Ikea Desk I see here doesnt seem to last and looks seriously fragile and lightweight.

You guys should check out Old Skool brand Sitoca.

http://sitoca.com.sg/product_cat/computer-table/
The pictures doesnt do the brand justice but I think Challenger at Funan still retails some of Sitoca's computer tables.

The One I am using has lasted me over 20 yrs and is still steady despite all kind of weights on it. I had even slept on top of it before. Still shows no sign of giving way. But I think alot of these nice decent computer tables designs are long gone for the brand Sitoca. Used to be pretty popular back then.

I found a picture of the exact same desk I am using.

I wonder if anyone still uses a Sitoca.
