Pretty sure the Malm series also uses the honeycomb structure type like the Linnmon. One way to guess is from the thickness. Plus it feels light for the thickness. Anything with this thickness is likely the honeycomb stuff.

I would avoid these if using a clamp mount. Not designed to support that kind of weight/pressure at a single point.

Go with a top that's made of either solid wood, plywood or particleboard.

I'm eyeing this Gerton table top with adjustable legs. Made of solid wood. Felt it firsthand at IKEA. Feels very sturdy and solid.

Malm series product description did indicate it is honeycomb structure.

Would ikea staff be able to advise what their boards are made of?

They should be able to, cos it will be stated on the item label :) Just flip it over and the specs should state it. If you check it online the details are also all there.

Example:

Filling material: Paper

i bought the bekant legs and the support separately,i went to get a cheap $30 wooden board from ikea. total less than $100 for the support.

then add a acrylic table top on top of the wooden table(about the same material as those table tops at counters at reception area in hospitals)

the table top was about $600 tho :s22:

way better :D

than the leg? same?

the leg is the important one haha..

my table is 120cm long

Actually, my impression is that it's mostly the same. It's like they just 'rebranded' it and changed it slightly by adding rounded corners, some new shapes. Tops are made of same material. Particleboard + melamine foil or veneer. Legs no more 'A' option, only 'T', last time in grey or chrome, now in black/white powdercoat.

Got a question about tables. The EOLed Galant and current Bekant tables have adjustable legs to adjust the tabletop height, right? Can the same be done with those old 2nd hand Sitoca tables?

Not just nowdays, I think they've always made it like this. 'Paper' refers to the cardboard filler for the honeycomb structure. There's still an internal frame made of particle board.

Actually if you think about it, it's quite smart design for cheap furniture, you don't use more materials than you need. Light means cheaper to ship. Easier for ppl to bring home and assemble, etc. Not everyone wants or can afford a solid wood table top.

If don't abuse, can tahan longer than you think. I have the previous gen (I think should be similar construction), at least 12 years already still using. Have at least 30-40kg load on it spread out. Even survived 1 house move so far.
