If Apple do the pin restriction thing then what’s the point of complying to the EU? isn’t it supposed to make sure that it can be use universally?

hence, I don‘t think there is restriction.

For my previous iPhone 14 pm, I’m using cables to charge and in 1 year the battery health dropped to 89%.

Usage and charging habit similar to all iPhones prior to iPhone 14 pm and only iPhone 14 pm dropped so drastically in a year. These issue are well documented and affects a lot of users worldwide. Therefore suspected that there is something not right with iPhone 14 pm.
My almost 1 year old 14PM, now at 97% battery health.
Never use wireless charging or MagSafe.
just charge normally as and when i like usually different variety of chargers from 10w old ipad charger to 100w Gan charger and also using different lightning cables.

The only thing is I didn’t let it drain down to below 40% for my daily use and i don’t game on the iphone. I will charge it to 90 plus or even 100%.

The 14PM I had for 1 year was sold at 99% battery health. Used all kinds of charging including daily MagSafe. think the ESR cryoboost charger played a part in keeping the phone cool during wireless charging so health didnt get hit much.

sharing some experience with magsafe charging

for the iphone 14 pro max 2022 i bot same time as my partner but she charge with lightning cable i charge with magsafe, roughly same usage everyday and charge once a day overnight

after close to 12 mth, her battery still 96% mine dropped to 88%

i think i will stick to wired charging this year

To extend your battery lifespan , there’s a choice in IOS 17 battery that can be selected.

Just set maximum charge to 80%.

When the phone battery reaches 100%, usually over overnight continuous charging , and the charger continues to charge it, this will damage the battery cells.

Basically as long as you don’t let the battery reach the extremes of either 0% or 100%, the battery lifespan can be extended.

There will still be some inevitable battery wear and tear but it will be slowed down .

i have a Baseus USB C cable from pre-iphone 15. it does not charge my Iphone 15 now, any help?
If you mistakenly got the cable which is intended for huawei mate pro super fast charging, then this cable will not work with iPhone 15. I have the same cable which also doesn’t work, and UGREEN said that the cable was made to accommodate the fast charging protocol for Huawei.

I’m not sure if its the chip in the cable which doesn’t hand shake with apple but 1 think for sure is that the cable connector at USB C end is not the same.

i heard there is some pin configuration and will cause issue. is that true?
Pin configuration is universal for all USB C design, but the only difference is whether the cable can support or not. For eg, cable can support 100W charging doesn’t mean it will support thunderbolt technology, and cable supporting thunderbolt technology can be backwards compatible to non-thunderbolt data transmission.

So rule of thumb here, get a cable which complies to USB 2.0/3.0 (depending which model you use), and to support at least 30W charging for iPhone.

You can, the cables are backwards compatible for charging and data transmission. However you cannot use an ordinary cable for thunderbolt connection though it uses USB C as well..

Yes I concur, using MagSafe will cause faster battery deterioration, presumably due to the heat generated. I started using MagSafe with iPhone 14 PM, battery health went from 100 to 96% in 6 months and then I switch to half cable half MagSafe for remaining 6 months before getting iPhone 15 PM. When I sold it, it was 95%.

Cable charging is the way to go for me as well.

This agree. MagSafe or wireless charging causes unnecessary heat Output.

My iPhone 12 was also charged frequently using wireless charger was suffering from battery capacity drop as well. after 1 year of use, it dropped to 90%.

I stopped using wireless charging for iPhone 13 Pro Max and it was 99% when i sold it after using for 1 year.

For 14 pro max. Battery capacity 97% now. No wireless charging use.

All have been undergone same kind of usage. Maybe the pro maxes abit more coz of the bigger screen.

I was able to keep 99% battery life for iP13PM for a year, what I did was not let the battery fall below 30%, and I only charge to 80% to 85% max.

I only use Apple MagSafe charger.

: : PSA : :

DO NOT purchase CASETiFY case for iPhone 15 Pro series! It uses the old design that does not support Action Button! There is a cut-out originally meant for Ring/Silent switch.
: : PSA : :

Same applies to SwitchEasy cases for iPhone 15 Pro series. There is a cut-out hole as they as manufacturer can’t confirm if Apple would indeed introduce the Action Button, hence, they play safe to have a cut-out hole design.

Unless you don’t mind the tactile experience of digging your finger through the cut-out hole to press the Action Button.

However, do note that there are reports where some case manufacturers had cut-out hole too small that caused the Action Button to be constantly pressed.

It seems the longevity of your battery life based on charging type (wired/magsafe) is pretty uncertain and probably round down to the actually QC of the battery itself.

My 14PM currently at 90% batt health. Mainly 5W charging overnight, 30W in the office when need juice & occasionally using magsafe.

My wife's 14PM currently as 90% batt health as well. All the way 30W fast charging. Constantly charging while using, overnight charging all the way. Probably higher charge cycle than mine.

So, YMMV 🤣

Let me share another example, my Sis iP14PM, after a year of usage, it was sold away with 100% Battery Health.

She followed my method, battery don’t fall below 30%, and charge only to 85% max.

She only use Apple MagSafe charger connected to Belkin 40W dual USB-C charger.

Good for your sis haha!

Good info. But I'm don't wanna micro my charge pattern to such extend. I own the Phone, it doesn't own me. 😬
