Intel CEOs and their mishaps:

Brian Krzanich 2013-2018
- Chemistry
- Intel process engineer
- Diversified Intel into 5G wireless, wearables, VR, AI (but focused on CPU approach).
- DEI initiatives
- "Consensual relationship with an Intel employee” in violation of corporate policy

Bob Swan 2019-2021
-BBA & MBA (omg!!)
- CFO training (bean-counter!!)
- Emergency parachuted in by Intel board members to replaced Krzanich.
- M&A expertise, so he focused on acquisitions for AI (still CPU approach).

Neither of the two CEOs were able to identify and fix the delays in fabbing their CPUs for 3 generations. So basically those CEOs failed Intel in the sense they diverted Intel's resources and attention to other things that don't matter in the long run.

Board members are also to blame. They all biz-focused only (i.e. bean counters in some sense).
List of Intel board members during the appointment of Bob Swan in 2019:
  • Andy Bryant (Chairman)
    • Qualifications: Served as Intel's Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer
    • Past Experience: 40+ years of experience at Intel, previously held various executive roles
  • Dion Weisler
    • Qualifications: Served as CEO of HP Inc.
    • Past Experience: 20+ years of experience in the tech industry, previously held senior roles at Lenovo and Acer
  • Omar Ishrak
    • Qualifications: Served as Chairman and CEO of Medtronic
    • Past Experience: 30+ years of experience in the medical device industry, previously held roles at General Electric
  • James Goetz
    • Qualifications: Co-founder and partner at Sequoia Capital
    • Past Experience: 20+ years of venture capital and technology investing experience
  • Alyssa Henry
    • Qualifications: Served as Square's, Inc.'s Seller Lead
    • Past Experience: 20+ years of experience in technology and payments industry, previously held roles at Amazon
  • Risa Lavizzo-Mourey
    • Qualifications: Professor at University of Pennsylvania
    • Past Experience: Former CEO of Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, policy experience in healthcare
  • David Pottruck
    • Qualifications: Former CEO and Chairman of The Charles Schwab Corporation
    • Past Experience: 20+ years of leadership experience in the financial services industry
  • Robert Swan (CEO)
    • Qualifications: Served as Intel's Chief Financial Officer prior to becoming CEO
    • Past Experience: 30+ years of experience in the tech industry, previously held executive roles at eBay and other companies

With Pat Gelsinger now back in charge, Intel is gunning to be the first fab to roll-out sub-2nm CPU with high-NA EUV lithography by 2027. In the meantime, Intel just have to make do with their existing fab processes lagging behind TSMC.

I hope my 12700k can last another 3 more years till 2027 and skip all the in-betweens. My previous Intel Core Q9450 and i5-4670k each lasted more than 10 years.
should be fine. 12 not affected.

my i7 4790 still in use on one of my rigs

Intel has many plans and anticipations, like what they had in the past. But either there was no market breakthrough or something failed.

Not sure if we are too optimistic

It is normal to have plans and projections, although Intel went into overdrive with their plans and projections. So to me, it is a combination of over promising and under delivering. I feel their aggressive die shrink for example, is going to run into issues or they are just simply branding something that has not meaningfully improved over previous gen. I am just speculating here, but I feel despite how great Intel said their Intel 4 node is doing, the fact that they did not use it, but move their CPU production fully to TSMC's 3nm makes me wonder if the product turned out to be a dud (not competitive). The messaging is negative for Intel's foundry business, and is not something they want at a time when they are aggressively going into the foundry business. If they skip their 20A, I feel their foundry business is going to be in trouble.

Yes, real men look at results, but cult members come to push their agenda here and trying to tell prophecies.

"INTEL is planning to do X, they are going to make it BIG OMG, THIS CHANGES Everything, AMD IS DOOMED!!!!"

All these bullsh1t I heard for years already, this is hardwarezone, not hardwarechurch, for GOD sake :ROFLMAO:.

Did you try it?Already updated since yesterday, and after a few changes and crashes, I believe this is the best bios update that they release.

Yeah for Asus, many people are also reporting very good results with it. The best thing for the new 129 microcode bios is that it seems to have completely squashed the SA bug for those on Asus boards.

agree Bro, the new bios are good.
I overclocked my CPU to 5.5Ghz with an EK AIO on 1.285v core voltage.
Test on cinebenchR23 never climbs up to 90 C, and I try to test on game for 2 hours and achieve around 85 max.
But I have some tweaks that I play around with the bios to achieve this.

That's great, if not. INTC might go to 10 dollar :devilish:

I have not really tried the new BIOS yet but I might since it really solves the SA bug as I think my board and RAM can do 8800MHz. I just did a quick test without closing some apps and my Vmin is 1.27V with max temps around 72 degrees. I just hope the new microcode does not request higher Vmin. I will use my backup BIOS switch to try the new BIOS later today.

Looks like Arrow Lake-S 8+16 (top chip) is better binned than that 8+12. Same power consumption but different core counts.

Most likely because now there is no more hyperthreading so power and heat output is noticeably lower. So it comes down to the efficiency of both P and E cores.

fantastic result Bro
that is an excellent outcome from the custom cooling setup.well worth it
I'm too lazy to do all the maintenance and services, but I wish I could do custom cooling too.
just to realise ur Core voltage max goes to 1.416V
and the Cpu Package Power max goes to 341W
Custom cooling did an excellent job keeping the temperature stable even if it is still very high.

@xtractor here ya go...haven't updated my bios due to lack of time OC profile 62x pcore single thread, 60x pcore all core, 47ecore @ 1.43v for ST and 1.36v for MT. Daily is 60x ST, 58x all core, 46 ecore, 51x ring. 8000c34 for ram, fully tightened. Using loadline that doesn't droop much, so i don't have to push crazy high voltage for light load.

Updating bios is usually fast and painless but finding the right voltages again to dial in my OC to be fully stable will take some time, as i usually stress test several softwares for awhile to make sure everything is running smooth and to expectations. Plus usually there's the itch to push the ram a bit more but I am at the edge of what's possible with this ITX board. Apex and and the asrock lightning can push 8800 stable supposedly...but too lazy to start chasing boards again to push the setup. When i find the time i will update bios, or maybe wait for more updates to roll out for it to be fully stable.

Hopefully the new chips would do well and have better ram tech to continue pushing. One day we will see 10,000c38 perhaps haha. But for now, no GAS. Will keep a lookout for the 9800x3d as well, don't mind jumping ship as long as it's the fastest. Seems like AMD infiinity fabric still the biggest limitation, and that's quite important when playing in RTX. AMD chips can handle 8000+ speeds but no point if the interconnect is so slow. No benefit in games.
