I know with an exchange rate of 1:3 it's about 2.5 times cheaper than petrol in Singapore.

But if you factor in CC discount (Esso's 21%), the toll you have to pay in ($12?) and the smile points you get to accumulate (that can be used to change for vouchers), how much are you actually saving?

Anyone did the math?

Taking the parameters that u took into account...no way SG petrol is going to be cheaper.2.5 times is 250% leh....

The only thing that can be used to discourage going into JB for petrol is the time and the jam.

cost of full tank in singapore (95)
price: $2.29
volume: 45L
20% cc discount
total: $82.44

cost of full tank in singapore (98)
price: $2.63
volume: 45L
20% cc discount
total: $94.68

cost of full tank in jb (97)
price: rm2.70 or sgd$0.90
volume: 45L
total: rm121.50 or sgd$40.50
toll: singapore $1 + jb rm22.90 or sgd$7.63 = $8.63
distance from home to petrol station and back: 50km
petrol price for 50km @ 10km/L: $4.50
grand total: $53.63

did a few assumptions here otherwise no way to compare. used 45L instead because people usually go in with some fuel left. assumed fuel economy is 10km/L which is generally true for most people.

summary. pumping petrol in JB is between 34%-44% cheaper depending on the petrol grade you pump in singapore.

but most people go in jb not only to pump petrol. groceries in jb are about 30-40% cheaper. massage is about 60% cheaper. food is about 30-40% cheaper. car wash is about 75-80% cheaper.

Ron rating is fixed. You buy 97 get 97. Superior or not depends on the fuel additive they use, VPR97 is “superior” to VP97 as it has more additive in it

Don’t get brainwashed by the BS local workshops put up... fuel is lower grade across the border. Have you heard of any cases where owner has to overhaul their engine due to pumping Malaysian fuel?

Not sure if this is related.. all the while pumping 95 in sg... then attendant pump 92 accidentally.. next day engine light up, misfire, change ignition coil.. ws said cos of 92.. I didn't tell them any history of my fuel

Ron97 is Ron97 no matter where you are, no such thing as being lower Ron rating when tested in a different country. It all depends on whats the emission standard in that country and its regulations. Our local fuel are Euro5 standard but Malaysia is still on Euro3, but that does not mean the Ron rating is lesser than advertised.

High performance cars require higher Ron, eg Porsche's minimum Ron95 (recommended Ron98). BnB cars usually have no issue with Ron92.

Fuel grade sold in each country:
Singapore: Ron92,95,98
Malaysia: Ron95,97,100
Thailand: Ron91,95
Indonesia: Ron88,90,91,95

no doubt local RON is taken from Malaysia refinery, but it is re-blended locally again for local use.

if Ron97 is Ron97, why waste effort to re-blend again with additives locally.

With good discounts by using Esso, 21.1% or sinopac 23%, if u pump less more than 45 litres, it is a waste of time to save around $20, including toll fees and custom fee, due to the jam.

I usually pump 70 litres.

With some calculation vs the discounts in Singapore, save around $50 to $60, maybe is worth the jam
