my pixel 6a is a Japan set so that would be surprising...

5G quite location dependent one. The signal range is actually worse than 3G, but if you are near one and it’s crowded your phone should switch to it.

Having said that even if your pixel is Japan set they probably also have their SoftBank, Docomo and au variants.

Tokyo cannot get 5g also..nvm, at least lte loading still decent for my needs

Had used ICC simcards under SIM2 slot, went to Furano, Biei, Noboribetsu, Lake Toya, Jozankei. 4G Signal was decent throughout and a little bad / no signal at the mountain / hill tops while viewing/stargazing.

But i had used car GPS mapcode to navigate around, so not so much of an issue for me. And since i was driving 99% of the time, didnt need to use phone for FB/insta/etc.

I rent before too and forget to return when I arrived SG on my red eye flight.

Haha i see.. its useful as it can use to charge the phone. Jus that once low batt cant use map to navigate liao.

hi all, would like to ask for advice for the data situation for multi-country travel (Taiwan and Japan).

I'm traveling with my family to Taiwan then Japan and I will need to provide data for 4 phones.

My phone has esim but the other 3 phones can only take physical sim. So most likely will take physical sim

And I may need stable connection to work on so maybe wifi egg to share among 4 of us not as ideal.

The most direct way is to buy sim cards for both Taiwan and Japan.

Simba Superroam might be convenient if light user. 10GB for 30 days, $25, must insert and show simba network in Singapore for at least 2 days before travel. Just walk in to any of the outlets to sign up and collect on the spot.

Just to share my current experience.

Now on Shinkansen from Osaka towards Tokyo. Using Ubigi eSim (showing softbank netwrok) on a Pixel.

Streaming of YouTube is quite laggy. A video of 20 minutes needs to wait for 4 to 5 times of loading in between video.

Was using ICC physical card when here in May, do remember better connection then this.

Of course, the current visitor crowd is more than in May. Maybe this cause the poorer reception.
