Didn't know cycling socks can be so thin like translucent. I think this may work for heavy sweater. Just don't like calve length socks.

Yeah only the higher than mid calf length is the issue. Somemore it is not like that normal marathon type of compression socks in which there is higher compression at the bottom (ankles) and then slowly not so compressive towards the top.

Also not sure if cutting away the top part (ie no more silicone gripper) to make it lower length would work or not....esp for longer distances. The whole calf length part itself is quite compressive already, due to the elastane (lycra) component. But then, also gotta consider if the edges would fray or not.

Interesting....... not sure if it was me who posted before cycling stuff before but it was like quite long ago. Anyway, some amateur triathletes/duathletes do these things of using cycling stuff for running, however is very small group here in SG. Some cycle sockless but i think some also bth.

Modern cycling socks is basically polyester/nylon + elastane (lycra) for stretch, just of different varying percentages and maybe thickness. But those on TB is pretty standard thickness and length, ie pretty thin. Main issue i see, which i do not have, is that these socks are mid calf length, which traditionally pure runners wouldnt like coz the socks squeeze on the calves tighter than usual.....maybe except for those who wants some sort of calf compression as for whatever reason they think this is beneficial to them esp for longer distances. (which i dont do anyway so i have absolutely no idea on the +ves :ROFLMAO: )
But basically, pure runners who prefer ankle socks wont touch these stuff.

A small group of cyclists still are on / love cotton socks. Im talking about the cotton ones, in which some cyclist (those more old style OG types) still use maybe due to "vintage fashion sense/culture" and i do still see on the road. But cyclists more into performance would avoid and use modern synthetic materials like nylon, polyester and elastine.
edit - correction, i have seen relatively young XMMs wearing fashion type cotton socks also. Not sure about that specific culture since i dont join those type of group rides (heck i majority of the time i solo one)

When i reach home in a few hrs time i go measure with my digital caliper what is the thickness.
Can try if interested.

ps. I also run with specific cycling jerseys. Provides good cooling esp when you wet them for eg during TTs, just nice for my 3-5kms distance also. Confirm wont chafe one, that time i run and train 10km in 2023 still nipple pain/chafe with all the running singlets be it china ones or branded Puma ones. After that train T100 duathlon this one just wear and forget......no issue. No need tape no need vasline no nothing, wear and forget. But of coz, same......pure runners wont use.
Others would use trisuit - but not really applicable for me coz i always wanna go toilet type (enlarged prostate) so ....... inconvenient if i use one piece suits so never invest and buy. It's 2 pcs top and bottom for me so that is why can use only the top for running.
not standardized based on experience. looks similar can be done in different fabric, weaving methods, thickness of threads, etc etc
learned from experiences buying looking similar ones but end up feeling different 😂
used to pay less than RMB15/pair until i couldn't find them at similar price range

I wouldn’t say I am elite, but competitive amateur runner.

A few points:

1. I don’t think there’s a need to touch doubles until you run 100k week and above.

2. To even hit 100k/week, you need to slowly ramp up. This could take years of incremental running.

3. The next problem is sleep. If you are doing doubles, then how can you get in enough sleep/rest? (ideal is 8 hours or more, 7 hours is the minimum).

4. The problem after this is time. If you have many life commitments, then it interferes with running. Busy job also affects. Doubles consume more time, you have to change out to run twice. If your route has traffic light, then it's double of the traffic lights.

5. The last problem is average run pace. If your average run pace isn’t as fast (5+ min/km), then running long mileage or doubles, will take a lot of time.

6. You need to factor in strength training. Because no way you can sustain 100+km/week without getting in strength work. My solution to this is to focus on building strength during base building (<100k weeks). And then slowly substitute the strength training for running. Gold standard probably be 2 hours of weekly strength training for 100km of running. The more you run, the more strength training you have to do.

Here's comes the plus points:

1. If you work from home, then those days are the realistic days you can slot in doubles.

2. Weekends (the other day that you don't do long run) can be the doubles day. Or public holiday.

3. If you want to do doubles, double recovery runs are good. Don't gek kiang and go do double threshold. Single threshold + second double run. Or long run + second run. All these combinations aren't easy to execute.

4. Most plans, even the pfitz 18 week/70 miles (113 km peak) which is also the sub-3 hour marathon plan, only has 6 out of 18 weeks where they have single week doubles. It's not like every week you run doubles.

5. Take advantage of your annual leaves, 1 day of leave can be used for doubles.
Very interesting tips! What's your next goal?

Too bad for aquathlon, you cant wear shoes. :ROFLMAO:

For duathlon,. can have that option. In fact for sprint duathlons, some fellas do wear aero socks and running shoes for cycling leg. And they are fast fellas.

This guy 62 this year. 2 years ago i asked his timing, i think if i rem correctly was 2.5km he did best 9:38 timing.
Like 2.5km run, 20km bike (around 39 kmh) and 2.5km run

His parkrun best times in the 17min++ range.

I won't want to wear shoes to swim, extra weight on the legs haha and then later harder to run, heavier haha

Yeah.....was just joking. Coz for shorter distances duathlons, can just keep it fast and simple through the transitions by wearing same thing throughout and not be bothered with changing shoes and even socks (I see some duathletes even bothering with different sock types) esp if one is not a pro in the change coz not practiced enough or dont know the tricks like putting powder in the socks etc.
Cyclists also put too much emphasis on using clipless shoes and believe it makes them go much faster, but the benefit is literally non-existent in such constant power evenly paced not draft legal flat races that you are racing on your own. Even in T100 climbing Sheares and bridges also not much, if any at all.

Good thing, esp since you are in CN, is that it is cheap to just try from A-Z items out there.

@GlassDoor have you tried run/swim yet?
did a run/swim/run 10/1.5/10.. did ok for a first try but still prefer simple run/swim 18/2
i typically take quite a while to get into "rhythm" and the two change over cause a bit of disruption. Maybe that's the point.:ROFLMAO:

edit: timing wise I used your race timing as a guide and did ok for the first run and swim. But the last 10k run was a mess. struggled to get into the flow after the swim leg.

One thing is open water swim is very diff from pool haha, my open water is about 5-6 mins slower than in pool.

humm.. where is a good place to do open water swim?
I never train open water at all haha. I know trifactor does a few open water session trainings before the event but I didn't join. I think the safest place to try open water is prob Sentosa beaches as they have life guards

Yes, the palawan and tanjong beaches @ Sentosa is popular with triathletes training, quite often can see one or 2 running or swimming there in trisuits attire. Coz of the prescence of lifeguards and so is esp safe if you stay close to the beaches. ECP does not have lifeguards.
The usual training times in the mornings really super serene there be it weekdays or even weekends, much more so than ECP in the mornings. Also nicer toilet/shower facilities.

yah, CN many many choices at more affordable prices.

me in SG now. Surprisingly, SG is more cooling than SH! 😂
this morning ran one round Serangoon Garden estate, the uphill part super challenging, my Z2-3 HR shoots up into red zone very fast
Good training.
Isotonic drinks in SG damn ex man! 😂
