do a value per mile to see whether is it worth
eg.

econ saver 50000 miles + $137.20
$1,033.60
VPM 0.020672

p.econ saver
65000 miles + $137.20
$1,588.60
VPM 0.02444

biz saver 86000 miles + $137.20
$2,418.60
VPM 0.028123256

Hm, while waiting for my KF miles (~150000 miles) to be transferred from my CC to my KF account, I tried to play with the booking.
Tried SG to Johannesburg in Dec on business saver.
The price without using KF miles is $6082.40; after I used the slider to apply my KF miles (currently at 38318 KF miles), I could only knock about $400 off. Meaning it's 38,318 KrisFlyer miles + SGD 5,691.40.

This is not what I expected; based on the website (Redemption Calculator), I need only 90000 KF miles for a round trip ticket, so I would have expected a significant amount to be offset by my miles. Am I interpreting it wrongly?

If I do have 90000 KF miles in my account, would I likely be able to offset the entire $6082.40?

Thanks!

Miles are valued lower when used to offset cost of a revenue ticket.

When u redeem the ticket fully using miles, its for an award ticket and not revenue ticket. Availability of award tickets are less than revenue tix (typically a couple biz seats per flight)

How to check the amount of airport taxes to pay..the award chart shows krisflyer miles only..

Can i just type in a revenue ticket to the same location and just take the airport tax stated in the revenue ticket?

different airlines have to pay different airport taxes even though they fly from the same airport to the same airport right?

Trip to Osaka, should i use my miles to redeem for SQ or ANA?

I intend to use my krisflyer miles to redeem a trip to Osaka. I prefer ANA airway, but if i use my miles to redeem should i use it on SQ to make the best use of miles? Pls advice.... as my first time redeeming miles.. not sure which is best. Thanks!

You can compare $/mile for the air fare on the date you want to travel if cost is your only comparison. I will consider that SQ has better flight timing and duration to Osaka whereas ANA takes 10 hours each way with a stopover in Tokyo.

I tried that. But the problem is you have to go through Krisflyer, send in redemption form, Krisflyer will then send the request to ANA; wait for them to reply, then Krisflyer gets back to you with the results.

Usually the seats for redemption are highly limited. So it is kind of troublesome especially if you prefer to go on certain dates.

However, if you redeem directly via Krisflyer by booking SQ, you will know if the dates are available and also get confirmation immediately if your redemption is successful.

Less stressful this way although there is a chance you may need more miles to redeem but worth it cause of the reasons I mentioned above

Hope it helps

You can call Krisflyer reservation hotline to do a star alliance redemption. No need to fill in any forms. The reservation centre can check availability on the fly

is it better to get a pair of free ticket or upgrade to business class?

just redeem biz class straight. Upgrading to the next class is not worth it as you are usually required to purchase more expensive fare/class.

When miles are used to redeem one way ticket, is the return ticket bought in a separate session? I see one way tix is more expensive than 2 way ones ...

1 way ticket pricing is usually not worth buying vs its return trip pricing. If you must redeem 1 way, then look for other alternatives to return like budget airlines.

I always ensure I have enough kf points to redeem for return flight. But it's never worth it to buy one way ticket. Never do it for a full fledge airline.

It's subjective and depending on the desired award ticket. Some people rather redeem a one way business or first ticket and then get a paid economy ticket for the return segment.
