They should make the Alienware Graphics Amplifier free with purchase :s13:

but PWP at least will tempt some buyers.. but not to mention they have to go buy their own graphics card if they wish to use it for additional graphics power.

maybe infuture will have third party 1. Hopefully that might bring the price down. :s13:

i am quite keen with the Alienware Graphics Amplifier myself but my current laptop couldn't support the port to run the device.

Maybe they should make this mainstream. :o

if GPU was soldered on for Dell brand, how can we customized the GPU when purchase for Dell Alienware or Dell inspiron 24 7000 or Dell Inspiron 15 7000?

At Best Denki, it seems that we can opp for whether to have Intel realsense camera for Dell inspiron 24 7000 for a nominal pricing~

go get the Dell Alienware m17 R3 confirm is removable. :s13:

I believe Alienware made the right decision to omit graphics card from the box to provide buyers flexibility to decide for themselves. If Amplifier were to include graphics card altogether, they are more likely to include top-of-the-line GTX Titan/GTX 980 or AMD R9 Fury/290X, which likely cost more than the amplifier + standalone graphics card from local shops. And not everyone needs the top-of-the-line graphics card and they may wish to go for more affordable high-end models like GTX 970 or R9-390. This amplifier is also designed for long term utility, where Alienware will continue to provide updated driver availability for future, newer lineup of graphics cards. Buyers can keep upgrading their external graphics card, without needing to change and upgrade their Alienware laptop.

In fact, they are saving money on the long term, since they are no longer bounded by performance limitation of internal graphics card and current Skylake Core i7 also does not bottleneck any single graphics card till date, not even the highest end Titan X.

And with omission of graphics card, Alienware warranty coverage also no need to cover for graphics card, which can be quite headache for both Alienware and users themselves, as graphics card tends to spoil faster and more frequent. The amplifier also just comes with just 1 year limited hardware warranty with no accidental coverage. Users have to spend another $200-300 to cover their amplifier with accidental coverage should graphics card is bundled inside together. Users will end up spending so much more if graphics card is included. Totally unwise.

SSD should be the norm for all gaming laptop. Or as least SSHD.

I mean, if ultrabooks can add them, why not gaming notebooks like the Alienware 15 17 laptops too? SSDs use less power which means long battery life, provides best gaming performance due to short load times.

Gamers don't mind forking out extra dollars anyway. Surely you will expect your laptop cost over SGD2.5k to boot faster than a ultrabook which cost half the price.
Yeah with M.2 form factor available now, PCIe SSD can be so tiny that wouldn't impact sacrificing real estate on the motherboard PCB to other parts. Like you've also mentioned, much better battery life with power sipping requirement of SSDs, and also the ultra high speed offered by PCIe 3.0 x4 eliminating any possible bottleneck. There is only benefits to embrace them.

A pity that this Graphics Amplifier only included a 80 mm fan on its chassis. A 120mm/140mm fan mount hole option will have been more welcomed by gamers as they can take advantage to mount the 120mm AIO watercooling radiator from Fury X, and also for enthusiast to convert their air cooled graphics card with hybrid watercooling using standalone AIO cooler mounts like Corsair Hydro HG10 A1 / NZXT Kraken G10. I believe there's also enough vacant space beside the power supply to house a mini water reservoir should enthusiasts want to take a step further to install custom watercooling system. And there are also wider varieties of 120mm specialised fans (airflow and static pressure) available on the market to improve airflow within than that of 80mm fan.

Dell Alienware 15 and 17 R3 laptops are expensive but the specs will give one a good gaming experience. furthermore there is Alienware Graphics Amplifier and
Creative Sound Core3D-EX.
Get Dell Inspiron 15 7000 for both home use and other purpose. This is because Dell Inspiron 15 7000 is light and portable. Dell Inspiron 24 7000 unless you want to use the Intel® RealSense™ 3D Camera.

Dell Alienware 17 R3 laptops is cheaper by SGD500 in Malaysia, our import taxes are too high~

Maybe just get a AIO Dell Inspiron 24 7000 would be a better gaming experience with Intel Realsense Camera, since Dell Alienware 17 R3 at 3.8KG too heavy to be portable~

yup it is from Creative. Creative Sound Core3D-EX is for use for Alienware Graphics Amplifier to provide good sound quality as well as voice communication.

Most of us gaming use quality headphone, not sure Creative Sound Core3D-EX will enhance good sound quality during gaming when using Dell Alienware 17 R3.

Alienware 17 connects to Intel Thunderbolt which is USB Type-C with support for SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps, 40Gbps.

Dell Alienware 17 has Intel Thunderbolt USB Type-C is good, but how many peripheral uses Intel Thunderbolt USB Type-C ?

I guess none, most of us will just use USB 3.1 or wireless to connect our devices.

Even Samsung SSD T1 does not utilize Intel Thunderbolt USB Type-C~

Yeah I also think the video clip is also featuring their latest Dell Alienware R3 series laptop. True seems sizing is the difference, not easy to spot the difference fr far.

Starting price at $2,899. Really powerful, can buy 2 of my current laptops

The case looks very durable though, maybe can survive even if a car rolled over it. I think HWZ can do a stress test to show what happens if the laptop accidentally drop while walking or from table :o

this i concur. very expensive. Not just expensive

I think the core3d-ex is for for dsp uses that create various kind of environment effect when you watch a movie through headphone. For pure audio music quality, one should still get a dedicated USB DAC to your high quality head phone.

I saw alienware 15 has two m2 ssd slot and alienware 17 has 4 m2 ssd slots! To maximise cost, you can opt for the 1tb HDD and add your ssd yourself!

The Alienware Graphics Amplifier is mainly purposed to reside at your home base as a desktop extension to your Alienware laptop. To increase performance when you are already stationary at your home..

Then again, some people actually used to lug their mITX mini gaming PC (along their peripherals) to LAN parties. Having this Alienware laptop + amplifier combination can actually lessen the load burden on the person who will be doing the carrying. This provides a lighter, less clutter solution for gamers who wants to bring desktop performance on the go to foreign places...

This Dell Alienware Graphics Amplifier made a portable became a non-portable, occupied more table space, so many messy wires running on table and need extra socket on the wall ~

I would rather get dell inspiron 24 7000 with Intel Realsense camera
