Hi guys, will be in Japan for close to a month from 31st May to 24th June thus I'm thinking of porting my completed Singtel Combo 3 plan to a M1 MySim 30 plan.

Can I kindly inquire if the $25 Data Passport is on a monthly billing cycle or just any 30-days period as I dun want to run the risk of paying 2 months worth of the Data passport.

My current situation is as follows:

Am being billed on the 25th of every month for my current singtel bill.

Thinking of contracting with M1 on the 24th of this month so they can port everything over by the 25th and hopefully avoid any other additional charges from singtel. Will my M1 bill cycle starts on the 24th or 25th? If it's on the 24th, that means the Data Passport will cut off on the 23rd of June if it follows the monthly billing cycle right?

Appreciate if anyone can clarify my doubts.

Thanks!

went japan from 1st May to 17th May. Change over from softbank to NTT Docomo was on 3rd May. Softbank was great with 4G speed. NTT Docomo only can get 3G and no service in some areas like tunnels in hokkaido.

The billing of the data passport is based on the billing cycle NOT 30 days from day of activation. I just used it for my Europe trip, and confirmed this before I activated it. Luckily my trip coincided within my billing cycle. Remember to terminate it the moment you stop using it, else it will keep rolling on!

Note the part in bold: you have to deactivate the passport on your own. Will not cut off automatically after one month

Using it at this very moment at Paris Orly airport. Works very well in London, Rome and Paris. No issues at all if you travel to developed nations.

I used in Amsterdam, Keukenhof, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Brussels, Ghent, Bruges, London, Cambridge - no problems at all. pretty fast speeds. 4G in London and Cologne (Depends on local operator)

Definitely best solution for EUR where the alternative is to buy local SIM in every country and that will cost a bomb.

I just come back from Japan (Tokyo) using the M1 Data Passport....

It's a nightmare , the speed using NTT DoCoMo was D*** slow can't even upload to Facebook and use Google Maps.

After 1 day , it said it reached my $100 data Limited ...spoilt my entire trip mood.

I have to buy a sim card from BIC at the 3rd days.

Wow seriously? I am almost gonna sign up for this data passport when I head to Tokyo in 2 weeks' time... Maybe I should reconsider other options!

My experience with b-mobile was not good. They offer LTE connection up to a certain data size and after that is the very slow 3G. During peak hours, I can't even get a connection.

This one is much better https://www.iijmio.jp/bicsim/welcomepack.html. LTE all the way under docomo network.

I know IIJMio is better, but also more ex. Your b-mobile issue is it related to their 1G max within 3 days? I am only expecting to use 333MB per day. My effective stay in JP is 12 days, so its a max of 4GB usage for 2380yen, so its kind of a good deal to me still.

I used SO-NET, it has no cap and can be used up all 2.2GB in a day, if you want to. price at 3300 now. Only trouble is the not pre-activated.

I had a look at the bmobile website and it looks like the service offering has changed. It could be better now perhaps due to the competition by other carriers. 333MB a day is good enough for basic navigating and news.

Anyone used M1 Data Passport in Japan recently? Any improvements? Saw so many complains about NTT, xian ji pua liao.

I tried in Germany and Malaysia before, very good.
