Yes, data roaming should be turn on and make sure it's on Softbank network..Usually will automatically lock on to that..

Was using it last 10 days in tokyo. Was on 3g but speeds were fast enough. Good connection the entire time in tokyo, hiroshima, osaka and kyoto.

Im gonna try it in yonaguni and okinawa in feb, hope it stays the same.

may i know whats the data limit for the data passport?

Your sg plan 2Gb then 2GB before the usual sg exceed data prices kicks in..

Like my wife has 3GB so she conserve data usage in sg and left about 2.7gb for the trip to use..

$2 is for 1 time activation charge, $10 is the monthly recurring fee if you don't terminate.

No additional charges unless you burst your data cap.

M1 FAQ said better activate before going oversea. However, just in case you forgotten to activate, you still able to do so via M1 App and *123#‧

Yes, Roaming cap better disable, as per M1 suggestion.
what will happen if we didnt disable roaming cap?

Once the $100 cap is reached, easily within a few hundreds KB (didn't calculate), you will not be able to use your data plan although you still have plenty left.

Btw please take note of your own billing cycle, if need to, just request for a change in billing cycle over the phone before activating the service.
