I called up QCD and was told the cost is about $100. I also search online on how to do a clean install of Mountain Lion (I got mine from App store).

Yes the process is pretty guided.

However I advise you to have a least an hour for pure installation alone.

The reason being the database is built from scratch, and this takes time even for the best iMac config available..

Hey guys!

So excited! Finally ditched my PC and bought a new imac 27" Fusion drive.

So far so good, usual habits need to kick when changing over.

But I have this irritating issue. I updated my safari to 6.0.5, and to my horror one day when I turn on my machine again. All my tabs were gone! I remembered there's an option to "reopen tabs when start"? I tried to google around but their best solution is from history tab, "Reopen all windows from last session".

Weird thing is, I can't even select this option while testing opening and closing, restarting mac and such. That option is just blanked out.

Okay, so I thought its a Safari problem. I downloaded Chrome and use it. To my disappointment, it also refuse to reopen my last sessions tabs!

Google chrome has this extension to help me manually save all my tabs. Thing is, this process is "automated" in PC, not sure why this is happening.

Any insights? I tried to go to system pref, but couldn't find anything. Help!

edit: another thing which is weird. I know imac when start up will have this Chime sound, to signify the processor has "started". Search around google, it says chime has its own uses. However, I would seriously very much like to mute it if possible. Startninja doesn't work..

I really wouldn't recommend DIY for the harddrive replacement since it involves removing the display from the main chassis and the difficulty level might be above that for beginners.
Get a pro to do it and save yourself the trouble.

I'll just post the guide here and let you make your own decision.

thks for your advice, I have no intention nor the knowledge in the first place of replacing the HDD myself, I am asking more about the clean installation of ML from a new HDD after this replacement. I am getting QCD to do it at $100 I guess

to strip open a 27" imac is a miracle..if u r not carefool..u will leave dented markin all over the beautifool giant screen
this must be done by a PROFESSIONAL who really used tools liked mission impossible tom cruise to remove a windows panel from the 88floor tower..i seen with me own eyes hor...

so this justify the 100 bucks service charge then I guess , read that you need suction cups to remove the glass screen

yup the 2011 model is the last one in which u can still use suction cups to remove the screen, u need to use a spatula thingy for the 2012 models onwards

Miraculously, I have the Safari Opens with [ All Windows From Last Session]!

But..........

Safari 6.0.5 still refuses to remember my last opened tabs..zzz Seriously dunno what's wrong man. Vexing!

Not true. Chrome has more addons and hacks, but as far as raw speed is concerned, Safari is faster on Mac.

I disagree. My chrome and safari no additional installed add-ons, chrome is visually faster. Loads pages can distinctively tell the difference already. Just using safari cause magic mouse more smooth in navigating in safari.
