I'm planning to buy an iMac. But I'm concern that my 1T portable harddisk cannot seemed to be recognised by my friend's iMac. Another friend of mine explained that for some strange reason, harddisk that is used on iMac cannot be read by a normal laptop, and vice-versa.

Is there any ground for such problem? How to go around this problem ?

you can try exFat format, readable by both windows and mac.

Hey Yuendi,

if you format your portable hard disk as FAT32, both Mac & Windows can read/write. The only down side is you can transfer up to 4GB of file. If you've a video file more than 4GB, you can't transfer your content over.

Mac OS journalled format; Mac can read / write, Windows can only read.

NTSF format; Mac can read, Windows can read / write. You can download third party application like MacFuse to write files on Mac.


*read means, view the files on your hard disk
*write means, you can add/delete/modify files on your hard disk

Just to add on, Snow Leopard recently added support for exFAT which does away with that 4GB file limitation and still able to read/write to both windows and osx. However, I believe it is not compatible with systems running Vista and below. This I might be wrong.

guys my chrome always displays applet not loaded properly, pls relaod page when logging into uob internet banking but its still the same even if i reload i try googling i see some of them facing the same problems but no solution.. anyone got this prob ?

Get a iMac or something.

Try clearing cache cookies sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
Use Safari, I'm facing the same issue as well.

Thanks for all the help, appreciate the answers to my previous questions. New user here so have quite a bit of questions due to the migrating of windows to mac transition haha.

1. Is there a faster torrent than transmission - u torrent for windows seems to be more detailed and faster than my mac.
2. How do I keep torrent on w/o overheating my macbookpro
3. After dling a program how do I transfer it to the applications folder
4. Is there an app that can delete repeated files in my comp?
5. Is there any must have programs on my mbp ranging from security to fully maximizing my mbp
6. Is there a faster program than handbrake, abit long to convert 1 dvd into a mp4 file compared to badaboom

1. Since you have Windows, just run utorrent and leave it to download on windows ?

3. Look for the .app file and drag it to the Applications folder.

4. Automating certain tasks isnt a good idea. Try setting hidden files to be visible and search via Spotlight ?

This is more of an Intel Processor question.

Currently I'm looking at the Macbook Pro 13"

The difference between the two models is the Intel Chip and its HDD space.

The latter isn't much of a bother. I'm just wondering if a 2.7Ghz i5 Dual-Core and 2.0Ghz i7 Dual-Core has a lot of difference.

is the difference between i5 and i7 noticeable or negligible?

just bought a mac book pro at the PC SHow, i try setting email (using Singnet) but encounter problem with sending email, receiving is no problem.

There no display shown from my MacBook. The keyboard backlight is still lit on, the volume and contrast button still workable. So does that means my main parts is still pretty alright less the display screen?

So will i be able to plug in external monitor screen to view and backup my data before i send for servicing??

Hi guys, I've got a little problem with my 1 year+ macbook pro. The cursor can actually move on its own and when it happens, I can't control it with my trackpad. Restarting solve the problem though. And one last thing, the problem occurs once in awhile, usually will only occur a few minutes after boot or restart. Any idea? I tried reformatting, but its still the same.... Help needed here. a reletive of mine recently passed me an old imac G5

i plugged in the power cable and tried booting it up, all i heard was the boot up sound but no display

anyone know how much would it cost to repair it? or is it even worth repairing?
