Thx snoweagle for the advise. Depends on ur usage... 15inch usually for designers,those doing professional work on laptops like photography editing ? 8gb ram I feel personally gd enuf. If u wan max out also gd,cus ram is soldered to motherboard?

2. Depends on what u do on yr mac. If u do lots of photo/video editing, then 16GB, else 8GB.
3. Now all rMBPs use SSDs. 512MB is usually more than enough and I would recommend u to store in external drives whenever possible.
4. If portability is yr priority, then 13". 15" more for a work powerhouse and if u don't mind forking out extra for them.

If u don't intend to store many things inside yr MBP then 128GB SSD is fine and get an external HDD. For your type of work, the specs is sufficient. In fact mine at 8GB RAM too with just photo editing, is also just enough.

Regarding how much space Yosemite now takes up, perhaps someone else could know better as I myself am not sure. But what I'm sure is the download file is 5+GB and maybe after installing could take over 10GB.

Welcome! Yosemite surprisingly runs pretty smoothly on my 4.5 years old MBP with very minute lag, but still very much usable, even though Connectivity and Handoff does not support due to the older bluetooth 2.1. Perhaps the 8GB RAM and dual-core Core i7 does help in some way to boost its performance on Yosemite.

How to install OS X Yosemite on your Mac

Before you begin

Before you install Yosemite, make sure you have one of these Macs:

iMac (Mid-2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
Your Mac also needs:

OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8, already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available disk space

128GB raw, usable sld be around 115GB. OS estimate double the free space + bit overhead, I guess 20GB.
Apple don't officially support boot camp off external hdd but quite a no of ppl manage to do it. A google search will give u the info. Note: I did not do it so cannot confirm.

128 gb is going to be enuf for Office but not much more. You can forget about any downloaded movies.

Yr Office documents should be more than enough, but music and pictures depending on how much u have. I always put those I've to sync via iTunes in the mac and also backup in my external HDD.

My usage mostly on surf internet, check emails, working on msoffice, watch videos, etc. I know mba can achieve my objectives but I am attracted to rmba because of the retina display and more USB ports.
