Thx snoweagle for the advise. Depends on ur usage... 15inch usually for designers, those doing professional work on laptops like photography editing ? 8gb ram I feel personally gd enuf. If u wan max out also gd,cus ram is soldered to motherboard? What specs would you recommend for rmbp in terms of the following:
1. i5 or i7
2. 8GB or 16GB RAM
3. Harddisk wise I know the higher the better. As SSD is costly. Would 512 be sufficient.
4. 13 inch or 15 inch
Thanks.

Actually can gt the base model at 128gb n 8gb ram right,n get external hdd? I feel like its jus nice? For me jus doing word doc n excel ,lab reports n watching movies. Btw wanna ask another qns, wads the space that's consumed by mac osx when its installed on the ssd? Like hw much is left from 128gb when we gt our retina mbp? Tkx.1. i7.
2. Depends on what u do on yr mac. If u do lots of photo/video editing, then 16GB, else 8GB.
3. Now all rMBPs use SSDs. 512MB is usually more than enough and I would recommend u to store in external drives whenever possible.
4. If portability is yr priority, then 13". 15" more for a work powerhouse and if u don't mind forking out extra for them.

If u don't intend to store many things inside yr MBP then 128GB SSD is fine and get an external HDD. For your type of work, the specs is sufficient. In fact mine at 8GB RAM too with just photo editing, is also just enough.
Regarding how much space Yosemite now takes up, perhaps someone else could know better as I myself am not sure. But what I'm sure is the download file is 5+GB and maybe after installing could take over 10GB.
Tkx once again! Btw ur mid 2010 mbp u r using, after using so many yrs n installing yosemite, does it lag?
128gb enuf to store word, excel, powerpt doc right? Coupled with music n pictures? Maybe movies that I download will save to my external hdd. Btw I can install windows 7 on my external hdd n boot on mbp from it right?

My usage mostly on surf internet, check emails, working on msoffice, watch videos, etc. I know mba can achieve my objectives but I am attracted to rmba because of the retina display and more USB ports.
So besides specs and weight difference between mba and retina mbp,r there any other differences? Personally I feel retina mbp is more like a solid laptop?
Thanks! N I agree mbp it feels more like a laptop and better on hand.. Anyway mbp n mba ram can b self upgraded right?More powerful cpu, graphics for mbp & its screen resolution.
Max ram for mba 8GB, max ram for mbp 16GB
Max storage for mba 512G, max for mbp 1TB.
mba 1 tb port, mbp 2 tb port.
