MacBook pro or windows laptop

As for longevity of macs vs windows laptops: I usually keep mine for about 10 years before it conks out and I have to change the laptop.

10 years?! Are you talking about Macs?

In my case, five years is the max for a Mac desktop (G4 933 QS) and 4-6 years for MBPs.

I went from heavy use to very light use, like doing graphic design to editing Word docs and surfing the net.

Plus, I had no money.

When I bought a new Mac laptop, the battery for the PBG4 already couldn't hold any charge. I used it as a desktop.

Huh...I am using my 2010 i7 MBP as a desktop now bcuz the battery spoilt and took the motherboard with it.

I ordered a new Aftershock S-15 as a replacement.

Because my budget did not allow for SGD4k this year for a new MBP along with Applecare. The S-15 is SGD2600 or so not including a new Office 365 subscription. That price also includes 3 years parts and service warranty.

I have myself on a strict budget so whatever $ comes in goes into different buckets. This year, too many things cropped up for me to buy a new MBP. If I wait a couple of months, I can afford one but this MBP is virtually on its last legs. And I cannot afford to be without a machine since it is for work.

However even their specs do not match up to their windows laptop counterparts(same mbp retina specs can b obtained on other brand laptops for lower price),I guess they compensate it thru the seamless hardware n software integration? With macs hardly having problems,crashes n etc? Windows laptops I rmbed gotta install tons of updates n antiviruses.

Ehh not just that, but battery life etc etc, you can't just compare based on specs

Raw specs are lousy comparison matrices. Let me give you the best example.

Apple iPhones are only dual cores, did any of the quad core android phones work 2x faster than iOS ? True computer science personnels will know raw specs are not true reflection of user experience when using a piece of product. Such marketing gimmicks can only convince people that have no depth understanding on how software and hardware interact.

Yes this r hw many of us have been trained to think.. however after trying out MacBooks and iPhones I've been totally blown away... though they hve lower specs than their windows counterparts,they can run faster... this shows that their hardware n software r well integrated.. Same for the case of iphones which largely outperforms most high specs android phone...

Hardly any problems? Don't let the reality distortion field get you. My 2008 MBP had issues with the Superdrive (finally replaced), the power brick (replaced), and its motherboard finally died early this year. Thank goodness it never had the nvidia video card problem!

And this one the SD card reader shorted out early but I never had time to get it replaced and finally the battery spoilt.

And I've had Macs do a hard crash...nothing like that gray screen slowly coming down on you like a curtain of doom.

Yes mid 2010 i7 as stated in my sig. But it's the glossy display and my superdrive is retained and still working. My batt still got 80+% charge capacity and working well, but i'll replace it once the next MBP refresh is out next year, hopefully still can hold on till then.

Do not take the batt reading as gospel. I thought that my batt was fine but all along it was getting worse.

Yeah, correct...every machine has problems.

The Aftershock will be a very clean machine with no bloatware. I am only going to be putting on a handful of programs such as Office, VLC, Handbrake, iTunes, Steam, two to three browsers, a web editor, an Adobe photo editor and maybe a couple more.

If the Aftershock lasts 3 years I would be VERY happy. After that, it will be another Aftershock or a DIY PC or back to another MBP.

Yes actually diy pc is one of the best n can customize the parts... Or macs as its always known for its built quality...

Well definitely it's degrading gradually as I plug in to AC just about everyday.

My lenovo laptop battery has spoilt so jus plug in as AC all the time...
