Sorry to jump in.....ill add in my manusave story here.
Just got the BI.....compare to 2001.....surrender value dwindle almost 50k!
Ok....partly my fault becoz i withdrew 16k last time.
This policy got option to withdraw a certain amt....every year.
But will eat into final amt.
So.....based on new BI....hold until end....2026.
Pay 60k total premium.....get back 59k....
Provided i dun withdraw any further amt in this 10 years.
Add in 16k last time....75k return....
25 years gone....Totally not worth it.

Ok,we must be fair in calculation. Last time you withdrew 16k,you cannot just add 16k back to maturity amount. The amount you add should be 16k x maybe 3% accumulative from the yr you withdrawn till maturity?

What was the original projected maturity amount? I think you can find that in their last 2009 revision letter? Your policy seems good if they had not revised lower bonus in 2009 and again now.

I heard they are very busy lately explaining to affected customers over the hotline.
Keep it up!
Make them provide detailed explanation on the poor par fund performance and what they are doing about it.
Drill them to the max!

Why make life difficult for the call centre staff when they are not the one taking your comms or having 3-6months bonus. Go grill your agent or send formal email to their senior management or write to straits times forum la.

Yes, you are right.....just add 16k seemed not correct.
But it is real scenario.

I still have the original 2001 BI.....$113k final end amount.

In the past, Manulife promised 113k surrender value.

Now, they can give you 59k only.

You will pay 60k and you have collected 16k.

They way I see it, they have over-forecasted and over-expected their returns. Good thing you are not making any losses.

If you can travel back in time, you should have bought the NTUC Living Policy. Someone mentioned this was the best policy at that time.

Yes....i was young n naive that time.
The story is i went to the oub bank to do fixed deposit.
But the bank teller psycho me to speak to their fund manager....manulife.
Yes, i did not make a loss....but 25 years is a very long long time. I could have make full use of the 60k....

Why do you like to pick some random returns from some random date?

Do you buy then sell for exactly 1 year?

The best returns is when you buy at the bottom. Period.

If you cannot accurately find the bottom, be prepared to hold longer term.
