Think M1 still having the promo for a fixed price for unlimited data in HK.

Yup they still having thru their worldwide Vodafone partnership. $15/day for unlimited data on Smartone Vodafone network in HK..

I'm not so sure all modems will work out of the box on Ubuntu. With my ZTE K3565-Z, the modem doesn't get picked up by NetworkManager and I have to manually configure wvdial to get connected.
It's a non-trivial process, but you should be able to find the necessary steps through Google.
Perhaps you might have more luck with Karmic Koala once it's released.

I would think it's cheaper to just get the local telco's prepaid SIM card. Not sure about HK, but Thailand's Unlimited GPRS/EDGE (though much slower than 3G) is only about $2.5 for 24 hours (DTAC).
Anyway, back to the main purpose of the thread. SingTel's BBoM customers, come share some reviews! I'm still waiting to hear from those on 4Mbps and above plans.

M'sia also has BBOM rental. Celc0m daily rate is RM6, weekly is RM20. Speed is only 394kb & data is unlimited. But you need to hv a modem to fit the SIM card or can buy in MY (up to 1mb/s) at around RM200.

Wonder how they recoup the fee of RM6 (24-hour) if they give you a SIM card & usage?

TS, after so many pages, perhaps it is time to consolidate and give us a 'bird-eye' view of which telco is best at which area... It wld be v useful for those who is deciding to sign up BBOM. :D

Wah, so many estates, how to consolidate! Anyway, there really aren't enough reviews yet... there are only a handful of SingTel reviews, wouldn't be fair to them to say they aren't good in certain areas.

384kbps is PHY rate. Actual rate after overhead and errors are much lower.
BTW, COL over in some parts of truly asia~ is comparable to SG, but other area definitely lower mah, if you compare basic necessities. The price is right in the mind of their main customers.

Anyway, the SIM card won't be free.
Considering the cheapest 1Mbps package at $22+ after GST without discount, that works out to be about $0.75 per day. On a contract.
And just look at the daily rates for adhoc subscribers... M1's $18 for 3 days is it?
