Nice test. When I have some spare time I might change my setup to support a second modem and do some testing - in Linux, load balancing is done by statically assigning target routes to specific interfaces, and are cached.
I'm not sure if there's an application/daemon which handles everything transparently and even checks the connectivity of an interface.

i just signed up STBB mobile 7.2mbps plan. And i'm given Huawei 1762 modem. I'm facing frequent disconnection, is it normal? Can i use a Starhub Huawei modem for STBB?

FrOzE, yes you can. ST and SH Huawei modems are stock software and thus not "software-locked" unlike those given out by M1 due to the Vodafone technology tie-up.

this is e 2nd time i test it...
i try on fri morning ard 10+, e speed is good...

anyone noe wht e speed given for iFlexi plan?
cos my fixed line BB contract is ending soon, i m thinking of switching it over to MOBB since i m e only user... but with this result i getting, i better think twice...

Well, check your area against the first page and choose a provider with good ratings.
Mobile broadband has its disadvantages, and high latency, slow speeds during peak hours are but 2 of the common "features" across all 3 telcos.
You have to know what you're getting into - if you have friends with mobile broadband, try T-loaning from them.
iFlexi shouldn't be speed limited, since you're paying per KB and it's their idea to pump 1MB across as fast as they can so that you can't cancel the operation. ;p
It's probably either limited by your phone (sure you're on 3G?), your area/reception, or simply congestion. Don't trust speedtest all the time, do a practical test like downloading from a good website (e.g. any microsoft download) and uploading to sites like flickr.

3. Area: Bukit Panjang (near Segar LRT Station)

4. Max speed attained: Able to hit avertised speed depending on time of the day(2mbps). Speed starts to go down during 7pm to 12am, around 500kps using speedtest. Speed seems to take a big hit on Friday nights

Ok where to i start.... Firstly, the modem they provided(MF626) was god damm unreliable. Nevermind the ramdom disconnections after 1 or 2 hours of usage. The modem broke down on me twice. First time was during warranty period. Got an replacement modem luckily.
The replacement modem broke down 8 months later (no more warranty)
Went to the Starhub Shop and they told me a new modem will cost $108. Sianzzz.
It left me with 7 months of contract with starhub (until Nov2010) but no internet to use.

This brings me to a question..Does anyone know whether the HDSPA modem they sell at Sim Lim square will work with the starhub? Really dont wanna to pay 108 bucks for the new modem but thats the last resort. Thanks.

Asakura_Hao88, yes, 120 is pretty normal.
Mine's usually about 90ms when I ping M1's DNS servers.

That's a ZTE modem. Apparently less reliable than Huawei's, most likely cheaper in terms of cost to the telco.
young man's blues, you can buy a modem from anyone selling in the forum, as long as it's SingTel/StarHub branded. Unless you're prepared to drop down to basics in Windows (create dial-up connection though your connected speed will not be affected) or you use Linux, don't get a M1-branded one as their technology tie-up with Vodafone results in their modems flashed with a specific firmware that caters Vodafone's product positioning and will not accept SingTel/StarHub SIM card.
Alternatively, lease out your SIM card for those who might want to try out StarHub's mobile broadband (either with their own modem or mobile phone) and recover some cost.

this is mine speed on SH MaxMobile Ultimate 7.2Mbps plan. i'm using acer aspire 3935 with the given huawei E1750. tested in central area with signal strength of 94%



btw, anyone use the prolink PHS300
3.75G USB HSUPA Modem instead of the huawei devices?... Can it be used on the SH sim card? Saw it in SLS. will it be better or same?...
