Ok. This is the whole story.

1. Check on singpost website with my tracking number and saw that the parcel was held by the customs.

2. Called singpost hotline and was advise to give ICA custom parcel section a call to settle the clearance.

3. Called ICA custom and was told that I need to go down and show proof of purchase to verify that my product is below 400SGD so that I no need to pay GST.

4. Went down to paya lebar ICA customs unit and showed them the online purchase receipt and collected my monitor from there. Speedpost can deliver to my house once I settle the clearance but I don't want to wait anymore so I took the monitor and cab home.

5. I am unlucky because the ICA officer told me they selectively detain parcels for checking. :s22::s22::s22:

I think ICA is now very "on the ball" liao.

My friend was in HK and bought some premium bags back to S'pore. At the airport, they were ALL told to open up their luggages and show the item they bought. If >SGD$600 ... have to pay GST 7%.

But how come for your case it's SGD$400?

Anybody can advise why?

Ok .. I found the link liao .... dear all ... please read.

Goods and Services Tax

There is a 7% Goods and Services Tax (GST) levied on all goods, inclusive of new articles, personal effects, souvenirs, gifts, food preparations and dutiable products, imported into Singapore. GST is calculated based on the CIF value of the goods plus all duties payable. If the invoice value of goods does not include insurance and freight charges, the postage charge paid for the goods is to be taken as freight and insurance charges, and is to be added to the invoice value of such invoice for calculation of GST payable.

GST relief is granted on goods, inclusive of new articles, personal effects, souvenirs, gifts and food preparations but excluding dutiable products, imported by post to a total value not exceeding $400. Where the value exceeds $400, the entire sum would be subject to GST.

It will cost more than 400 if you buy from a reputed seller on eBay.

I personally find gmarket quiet flaky, but hey if you can get it for <400 on eBay JUST BUY IT! LOL!

I suppose branded bags more or less have a fixed price tag so can't really escape. For me, I will find all means to escape paying old man coffin money.. :s13:

Tilt means up and down ... and swivel means turning left and right, correct?

And you want guarantee no dead pixel but stuck pixel is ok?

It will reach S'pore before midnight later. Hopefully they can sort it out fast enough tomorrow and pass it to the dispatch .. then you might just get it tomorrow.

Normally they don't deliver on Saturday, so worst case is next Monday.

That is the stupid part .... they'll only tell us ... "The item will be delivered to you between 9am-6pm. But the fact is that I received both my monitor after 6pm.

I waited at home .... expecting ... hoping .. expecting ... hoping like a dumb dumb. I just don't understand why can't they give a call the day before to fixed up all the appointment for the next day.

In this way, we can plan our time and it will greatly reduced the chances of them making a wasted trip.

I seriously wonder who is the one in-charge of that department. Obviously that person don't purchase stuffs online.

i assume those with swivel usually have tilt and elevate, but its optional, i just want to compare cheapest with swivel, cheapest without.

if stuck pixel means will go off over time, i don't mind

This is the kind of "first class service" in a "first world country". They rather save on a phone call than having the same item delivered twice to the same place. Just don't understand why singpost cannot call the customers and arrange a timeslot instead of giving a range of whole day, like that people cannot go out for fear of missing the delivery! When I called the CSO from singpost today regarding the customs issue, the CSO mentioned that they do not have the hotline of the customs till I give a little pressure then the CSO is bothered to go and find out. Of course, they don't know just tell customers that they don't have, easy brush off tactics.

Just look at Singtel or Starhub, I am sure their technicians also visit as many places as the singpost delivery man. What they do? The CSO will arrange a timeslot for you and the tech will give you a call when they are on their way.

Totally sub-par service standard from singpost. :s22:

Normally, most will be tilt up and down. Swivel basically you just rotate the base of your monitor left and right can liao.

But for elevating up and down ... only pivot version has it.

The cheapest, 27", 2560x1440, S-IPS panel and guarantee no dead pixel is this :

From what I know ... cannot. But you can try again.

I suggest you paste a paper with your handphone no at the door and explain that you are working night shift and sleeping, please call your mobile phone so that you can answer the door.

If I am not wrong ..... it is the same place lah. I believe whoever that is incharge didn't bother to plan out the schedule for the following day.

I mean ... if you got "X" number of items to be delivered by "Y" number of dispatch.

All the items sure got address right? So split the item into 6 areas :
1. East
2. North
3. West
4. Extreme West
5. Central
6. South

Assign 1 person incharge of each of the area ... then that person will further split to Y/6 number of dispatch.

Then the dispatch just call up all the receiver and finalise a time to send. If the person cannot ... straight away ... all the item route to "redelivery". And then start the process all over again.

Very difficult meh? Anybody working in SingPost can advise?

Yah ... it is like that one.

At most you see "With Delivery Courier" .... that's all. Make sure the note at the door you must write big enough ... if not they may just missed it. But they may or may not call, depending on that delivery person.

My experience with speedpost was terrible.

on both occasions (ordered 2 sets), the postman failed to deliver the goods and even when i placed my bro at home for the entire day!

I'm leaving in a town house, hence there is an intercom at the main gate where visitors (i.e. postman) could ring. HE didn't. And didn't leave a delivery note as well. How dodgy is that...

anwyays i wrote in and this is their reply after 3 days of "investigations"

---------------------------------------------

Dear Mr xxx,

We refer to your enquiry dated 16/5/2012 regarding non receipt of the delivery advice.

Our investigations revealed that the courier faced challenges to realize that the letter-box was outside the building and the location of door bell. She feels remorseful for not seeking her supervisor help to verify on this address delivery point.

The supervisor had made a trip together with the courier to guide her on the delivery. He will continue to monitor the courier performance and if this still persists or courier could not meet up to our service expectations a warning letter will be followed.

We agree that timeliness and reliability are essential aspects of our delivery services. We wish to apologise for the inconvenience caused. We acknowledged that our service could have been better in this case, and we will take the necessary steps to close the gaps identified.

We thank you for the valuable feedback on this matter.

Regards
