hi guy! sry if is a repeat question.

i look around for a mini display to dvi, it seems theres only up to a maximum 1080p. any other peeps can go up further to 2560x1440?

thanks

There are people saying that they are able to display using their macbooks (not sure what model) by using an ACTIVE dp to dvi adapter.

okay.. gam sia:D

Displayport cannot drive a dual-link signal without an active adapter... this is confirmed chop fact. And such an adapter is not cheap, Apple Singapore lists it at $158.

Buyers beware! Don't buy this monitor if you don't have a dual-link DVI port from your laptop or desktop. Otherwise, be prepared to fork out a lot more than you expected.

EDIT: I see that the abovementioned CROSSOVER 2720MDP GOLD LED has DisplayPort, so that's good. It's a fair bit more expensive however, but still cheaper than most IPS 27" 2560x1440 monitors in Singapore.

Key point of this version is that it has DisplayPort. This eliminates a lot of the headache of connectivity to most modern laptops, and makes multi-display a lot easier.

yea.. did a little research this afternoon. it requires the adapter that has usb. so meaning those mini display port without usb together can only go up to 1080p max.:s22:

So far my red-cap was very very responsive over every messages I've sent and my Crossover albeit one particular Bright pixel was working right out of the box even after fixing up with Eyeinfinity one MSI 5770 HAWK.

One thing though, BIOS don't show up, only until windows logon then finally it would show on the Crossover monitor.

Haha bro, we have the same gfx! I think because ur screen did not change the mode to DVI. I used to have this problem too, it was in HDMi mode. So try changing? :)

I agree. But from what I know ... only Dual DVI can hit 2560x1440, can anybody confirm?

DVI requires a dual-link signal to achieve 2560x1440. DisplayPort does not. This is a limitation of the electrical standard of DVI.

IMO, this means DVI is more or less going to die eventually, given the difficulty in producing a dual-link signal.

From wikipedia:
Wikipedia said:
DisplayPort has several advantages over VGA, DVI, and LVDS.
.
.
Supports high resolution displays and multiple displays with a single cable
17.28 Gbit/s of effective video bandwidth, enough for supporting 4 simultaneous 1080p60 displays (CEA-861 timings) or 2,560 × 1,600 × 30 bit @120 Hz (CVT-R timings)
.
.
Dual-link DVI is limited in resolution and speed by the quality and therefore the bandwidth of the DVI cable, the quality of the transmitter, and the quality of the receiver; can only drive one monitor at a time; and cannot send audio data. HDMI 1.3 and 1.4 are limited to effectively 8.16 Gbit/s or 340 MHz (though actual devices are limited to 225–300 MHz), and can only drive one monitor at a time. VGA connectors have no defined maximum resolution or speed, but their analog nature limits their bandwidth.

Basically DisplayPort is superior to DVI in just about every way, and is not supposed to be compatible to DVI unless it has "dual-mode".

Oic ... so Display Port would be the connector of the future liao lah. Since it is better than HDMI.

So Display Port (DP) is no doubt more superior than the rest but does anybody here managed to get 2560x1440 with just a normal DP cable from notebook? A friend of mine says that his friend managed to get 2560x1440 via PC.

If DVI / Dual DVI etc can last another 5yrs ok liao. At that time ... it would be the time to upgrade to perhaps ... 30" OLED monitor liao ... with dunno what kind of resolution.

The thing is that just about every new product launched in the future will probably come with DisplayPort rather than DVI*. I would say it is much better to invest in DisplayPort if you're going to buy a high-resolution (>1080p) monitor; it will save you quite a lot of headache in the future when you buy a new device that has a digital graphics output that will probably be DP and/or HDMI only.

* (perhaps not for graphics cards, but even when I look at my somewhat old AMD 6950, it has 2 mini-DisplayPort outputs, but only one Dual-Link DVI output)
