I'm interested to know a little bit more about the network upgrade MR is doing in preparation for the influx of the 1gbps plan subscribers (myself included). Anyone know or have any idea what is going on in the backend?
They're becoming an OpCo. Put very simply, this means they're putting in routers and OLTs at several SingTel exchanges (which is where OpenNet's fibres terminate) so they can route traffic for their customers to their Internet uplinks. They will also be renegotiating rates and bandwidth from their transit providers in order to cater to the additional anticipated load. And then tying it all into a prioritisation system, billing, etc. A lot of work.
