Teleport and home voice

Hi, MR,

I have 2 questions:

1. What exactly is the technology behind Teleport? Is it just a US VPN service at the backend? In this case, will it affect the latency and throughput when accessing SG or other Asian sites?
2. Home voice: do you support BYOD? I have VoIP phone and asterisk at home and I hope I can use your service directly by configuring asterisk (such as your service name, port, credential, etc.). Possible? I really hate the route to connect your ONT via RJ11 and then convert to digital again.

Thanks a lot.

I was about to sign up when I chatted live with the sales online. I was told that if I sign up 1Gbps now and when contract expires in future, I cannot downgrade. That put a stop to my application. So 300Mbps plan @$39 not for new customer?

the 300mbps is eligible for new sign up too. :) but it more worth it to go for 1gbps.

For new users, 1gbps is more worthwhile at promo price but once it's over, the 300mbps is better value for money unless $39/mth is on promo too

Any 300Mbps user please share your speed test.

I believe this has been mentioned quite a couple of times that 1Gbps will start to roll over earliest in March 2014 and 300Mbps could be later after March 2014.

It's not a VPN. Your traffic is not encrypted point-to-point. It's a DNS-based spoofing system that makes the host site "think" you're in a different part of the world, limited to that part of the negotiation protocol when the site is checking your geo. After that, it's business-as-usual. Consequently, it does not affect latency / throughput at all.

For more on this, google "how does unblock-us work?" - Teleport is similar, supports fewer sites and countries, but is free, while unblock-us is around US$ 5 / 6 pm. Also, Teleport doesn't require you to change your DNS to unblock-us - you use the native MyRepublic DNS. This means MR can route you to local caches and ISP-specific best-routes, which unblock-us has no idea of.

Recently signed up for the 1gbps plan, but can't help look to the future when the 2 years are up. Apparently the price should revert to $89.

I wonder what we'll be getting for $49.99 by then. But I guess that's the whole idea, get us so used to the 1gbps that we can't possibly think of downgrading again :)

been using myrepublic for a year plus now,

thinking of signing up for 1gbps, but some questions

1) currently on the 5 months free internet subscription, which ends on september, can i sign up but start my plan on september? (last three months where they provide free internet subscription)
(or should I recontract on july so I can make use of the $200 voucher given)

2) now on router n53 which was given on the installation, and unable to use 5G (on and off) who should i go for RMA?

3) so good they provide opennet TP installation :(

4) any other offers available through myrepublic partners? (or swap freebies with something else)

thanks!

How bad is Starhub nowadays, can you elaborate?

Not sure about MR, but with current prices and so many eager to sign-up (activation dates are now scheduled for March!) won't this affect their speeds in any way?

Oh I can relate to Slowhub's standards. Let me give you examples:

First no connection at home after installation, they don't want to send tech guys down. Paid for Early Termination Charge (ETC).

Then, blackberry still in contract (screen cracked, need 1-2-1 exchange) but CSO says no. But in actual fact still in contract, and by the time i found out, already dispose phone and paid for ETC.

1 bar reception in office and home (places which I frequent), but CSOs claims I'm near a blind spot.

But Already pointed out the "blind spot" and yet nothing was done. Paid for yet another ETC.

Called last year in Aug to ask for waiver, till now no reply. And every month I have to call and follow-up.

Like I'm my own CSO for my own case.

Just spectacular!
