Expand Point 2 a bit, even for MR users, it may be cost effective to go to 10Gbps compare to 1Gbps if the user can offload the router at S$600.

https://myrepublic.net/sg/10gbps/
MR HyperSpeed 10Gbps at $59.99/mth, Top up $50 for TP-Link Archer BE805 Wi-Fi 7 router (worth $799).

S$59.99 - S$(600-50)/24 = S$37.07 per month.

MR nofrills 1Gbps plan is at S$37.99 per month.
https://myrepublic.net/sg/broadband/1gbps/

So I will update the above to the following.
+++++++++++++++++
People may go to 10Gbps plan for different reasons.

1) tech savvy and want to try new things, it has become much more affordable now.

2) the contents and/or WiFi 7 router bundle from Starhub may make the 10Gbps plan cheaper than or at least comparable with Starhub 1Gbps plan for Starhub users to who need the bundled contents or want to upgrade to WiFi 7 router. Same for MR users who want the WiFi 7 router, or can offload the router at a good price like S$600.

3) have real needs for 10Gbps bandwidth -- only minorities among the users who subscribe to 10G plans.

+++++++++++++++

Need to re-calculate as the offloading price can be low at around S$450.

Bro have you download the TPlink router app to test your Speedtest from router to Starhub server?

Already done. That app is actually Ookla Speedtest.

You need to go to

resi10g.speedtest.starhub.com/10G

for the 10Gbps speedtest

As more and more people sign up Starhub and other ISP and trying to sell the router then price may fall a bit again. Not easy to sell and just make a bit of money only.

For peole who are selling the second unit of EB810v (purchase price is at S$360), you are indeed very correct as the profit is low.

However, if people want to use their own router, they may want to sell the first unit. In that case, even S$400 for Starhub EB810v is not bad for them (reduce monthly cost by S$400/24 = S$16.67).

True la but for me i prefer to use ISP router. May be in the near future say 2025, Starhub may further upgrade the router again and get one with better processor. Remember that the Nokia ONR is not too long ago thing and now it is replaced with this TP-Link. Nokia B1 also very fast replaced by Nokia B2 too. Then come Linksys MX2. About 18 months and 1 day, can recontract and get new router again.

@Mach3.2 and @Henry Ng

Wow, you are right and I am wrong. The initial offloading price is already down to S$450 to S$499 from Carousell.

1) S$450 for TP-Link EB810v BNIB
https://www.carousell.sg/p/tp-link-eb810v-aginet-wifi7-1290065638/

2) S$499 for TP-Link EB810v BNIB
https://www.carousell.sg/p/tp-link-eb810v-wifi-7-available-23-apr-2024-onwards-1288890283/

MR users seems to have less listings for Archer BE805 as they do not have second unit offer.
1) $500 for Archer BE805 BNIB
https://www.carousell.sg/p/tp-link-archer-be805-be19000-wifi-7-10gbps-router-1284838244/
imo the market for flipping routers is quite small, flip at your own risk.

The market is not too small for M1 issued RT-AX55 (previously) and RT-AX3000P (now), as well as TP-Link Archer AX72. The price is around S$80.
I stand corrected, at least for cheaper low end routers.

usually cheaper stuff easier to flip. as things get more expensive, people start to think harder and rationalise more. :)

You see the tplink routers you linked, those only got less than 10 likes, even the one that's sold only got 9 likes.

Do you think home user will get better speed after the upgrade of our network?

You mean the government's push to upgrade of the infrastructure and target 50% of households to go for 10Gbps plan in 2028, yes, of course that will help.

Down the road, with better WiFi router and 2.5G and 10G plans, for sure the overall speed will increase significantly.

New 10Gbps plan from Singtel, using FTTR solution from Huawei.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/fibre-everywhere-fttr
I think it may have some niche use cases.
1) For people who want Singtel to wired up the room (especially true for those who do not have LAN ports in the rooms). Singtel mentions "no need to hack the wall" as one of the advantages.
2) For people who like the form factor of the main ONR and the slave device
But I do not think it is a good plan to go for most users.
1) Price is on the high side as it is tied to a 10G plan and start from S$109 per month (higher with more slave devices)
2) Main ONR has only 1G LAN port
3) Slave device has 2.5G LAN port which may be good enough
4) Slave devices will still need power. So this may not be as sleek as PoE Faceplate APs for those who like the small form factor per-room slave device.
Singtel Plan details.

Prices starting from $109/mth
(U.P. $179/mth).

More info from Huawei
https://www.huawei.com/sg/news/sg/2023/huawei fttr f30
Main unit --> OptiXstar V183 XGS-PON ONR (also compatible with GPON), 4 x 1G LAN ports
Slave unit --> Huawei OptiXstar K153-10, 2.5G, with one 2.5G/1G LAN port
From the OptiXstar V183 ONR documentation.
Huawei OptiXstar V183 is a Master FTTR for the Huawei FTTR OptiXstar F30 Pro.
It uses GPON/XGS-PON technologies to implement ultra-broadband access for
users.
From the OptiXstar K153-10 Slave device documentation
Huawei OptiXstar K153-10 is a Slave FTTR for the Huawei FTTR OptiXstar F30 Pro.
It supports ultra-gigabit broadband access through upstream fibre and provides
users with ultra-gigabit dual-band Wi-Fi and ultra-gigabit network ports.

Chinese YouTuber review of FTTR 2000Mbps service in China.

This also shows a good and bad thing about FTTR -- you can not DIY, the ISP personnels have to go to your place and it will take some time for the installation to work.

But at least the equipment matches 2000Mbps offering (at least the slave FTTR unit has 2.5G LAN port). Singtel is offering this as 10G service, again it kind of become aggregated 10G plan with each slave up to 2.5G.

Basicly the main unit is the XGS-PON ONR with only wireless and 1G port (very bad design decision). The slave unit is a GPON ONT with single 2.5G port. The main unit talks to the slave unit using PON. Technically splitter can be added to support up to 16 slaves.

Aiyo .... FTTR machiam cannot to do FTTH as in to the room loh .... my initial FTP installation was to my side bed room and initially the OpenNet worker in charge refused to do (as their instruction received is to the living room besides the SCV point) those days, which I refused to allow them to commence. After some disscussions back and forth, finally they allow to do it my room and I pay extra charges if the length exceed 30M. which I'm OK with it. Long story short.

SingTel has have done better in providing better 10Gbps solution with ONT then ONR, its because of TR69 functionality. How come StarHub and MyRepublic can afford to do so with ONT. Price attractiveness aside.

OPNsense. Haha.

MikroTik is good but still I will support Open Source offerings like pfSense/OPNsense/OpenWRT.

any suggestion if I should run it bare metal or virtualized it on a dedicated device?

I do read that Mikrotik CHR runs better on HyperV over ESX or Proxmox, so wondering if you have any past experiences.

I am running on Mikrotik CHR on Proxmox. No issue i only used 2 vCPU and 1G ram for that instance. it services 500Mbps Internet and 50 wireless clients, 20 wired clients and 3 wireguard connection . CPU usage only 10% and 20% for RAM. My Promox is running J4125 cpu only.

I now really get parked liao. I tested the speed using my old LG laptop (with only Windows OS installed and nothing else) in my room and I got the below results

So there's nothing wrong with my 10Gbps setup. My new LG laptop is giving me problem ah. Big surgical operation coming

Have to call SH to cancel the tech appointment liao

Very glad that your 10Gbps setup is okay. Now that you have identified the root cause which is the new LG laptop, I think you should be able to sort out the issue after refreshing Windows installations.

Does this result applies to all 10Gbps plan in Singapore? Is there no way we could achieve 6-7% off 10Gbps in Speedtest?

No way if using XGS-PON, max out at about 8.2Gbps to 8.3Gbps, because of the overhead.

SingTel, Starhub and MyRepublic 10Gbps plan use XGS-PON technology. So in reality we should call these plans 8Gbps plans.

I think the highest Google Fibre plan is called 8Gbps for the same reason.
