By listing spouse as occupier means that the spouse is not a owner and has not legal obligation to finance the mortgage. The spouse cannot finance the mortgage nor has any legal responsiblilty if main applicant defaults payment.
This make sense if for example husband is the only one servicing and paying for the flat and the wife does not pay a single cent. Husband wants to own the flat entirely since wife does not pay a single cent. Future sale proceedings of the flat will go entirely to husband.
