Check the package and the device. Does it say DVB-T2-lite? If it doesn't have the "lite" it does not comply with the updated DVB-T2 v1.3.1 which MediaCorp is using.

Will check that out. Btw noticed it support DVB-C as well. Meaning connect cable from USB box to SH cable point right? Do you know which TV Program support Scan/Watch with DVB-C? Thanks.

Yup that's right it supports DVB-C.

As for TV program, u can either use their inhouse program TBSviewer, or u can download their BDA-compliant drivers and use third party programs. I personally use NextPVR with the BDA-compliant drivers.

Using TBS5220 with tvheadend backend and openelec frontend on asus chromebox.

tvheadend runs virtualized with ubuntu 14.04 on top of proxmox. This is basically kvm.

The TBS5220 didn't like esxi due to the need for USB isochronous transfers but it played nice with kvm so I had to move it to the proxmox server.

The kodi enabling of cord cutting with dvb-t2 pvr and online streaming is now complete.

What is the advantage of this one over the other type of tuner, like Hauppauge 292E DVB-T2 USB Tuner?

This TBS5281 supports DVB-C too, which can receive those signals from the StarHub antenna point.

I only has the Starhub antenna point in the living room. All the bedroom got the old roof antenna point. If I am not connecting to the Starhub antenna point, the Hauppauge 292E DVB-T2 is good enough?

Or cheaper ones that is as good to recommend?

Remember to use the appropriate drivers.

If u are receiving DVB-T2 from the air, use the DVB-T2 drivers.

If u are receiving DVB-C from the StarHub antenna point, use the DVB-C drivers.

Thank you very much for this advice. Previously I installed both type of drivers.

I have uninstalled the DVB-C drivers and using the T2 drivers as confirmed in the device manager.

After several try and error, I am able to receive only 4 channels. Channel 5, 5 (HD), 8 & CNA.

How to receive more channels ?

And also my images after awhile will be distorted. Does this my area reception no good ? im staying at bishan

But still cant find any channel lol. how ah?

Have u checked that on the device and/or the box does it indicate "DVB-T2 Lite"? It needs the "lite" version to be able to support MediaCorp's broadcast which uses DVB-T2 v1.3.1 (aka the lite version).

Oh no. I am not able to see any lite indicated on the box. But just now able to scan the 4 channel.

Does it matter if no lite ?

The 4 channels u scanned may have been DVB-T (at 610Mhz) channels consisting of Channel 5 (SD), Channel 8 (SD), Channel News Asia (SD) and Channel 5 (HD).

The lite version is needed to tune to the newer DVB-T2 channels.

No need. Can contact the TBS side (just to check whether your version is lite or not). If not lite, then can do an RMA to TBS to get a replacement for free.

Dammit, if they were to exchange TBS5220, means I lugi $30 + return mailing charges. wtf
Sigh, was still looking forward to watching in on my lappy.

Anyway what must I look out for if I were to use the starhuh point? Old one cannot right ?

By right by now all their products should be using only the updated lite version liao.

Anyway, can request that they reimburse u the postage u paid to return the non-lite device. I did that when they made a mistake sending me a non-lite device.

Can u check either on the package box or the device whether it is DVB-T2 lite or without the lite?

Anyway, regardless of the DVB-T2 lite thing, the DVB-C should be able to work. What program are u using? Perhaps try the program TBSViewer first? For me personally I use their TBS drivers and use NextPVR to tune/record the channels.
