1st two parts are the same as version 2 of astrometa, 3rd one is probably for the analog tv+av in, if we don't need the function, can save some money and order the version 2, around US$20 or less on aliexpress/ebay

How to tell the real v2 from the fake as most of these sellers don't even state the brand/made? I read some brought similar TV stick but end up unable to receive DVB-T2 channel, only analogue one.

A valid point, Geniatech T230 is probably a better choice in this aspect as the brand/made is known. You can only use the buyers' feedback/reviews and the product description (DVB-T/T2/C/DAB/SDR) as hints that this is an astrometa stick and only when the item is physically here, open it up to confirm.

2 random sellers at US$19plus of possible astrometa stick:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Digi...Remote-HD-TV-Receiver-for-DVB/1762667746.html
and
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/USB-...al-HDTV-Stick-Tuner-Receiver/32523888349.html
No commercial interest in either seller.

Does it show the last channel every time you reopen TM?

it list all the channels that it had auto scanned before but no image/sound. i had to re scan for all the channels to work again. Is there any hidden settings i can do to manually key in the channel frequencies? auto tuning each time i open Totalmedia is so time consuming

Geniatech/Mygica T230 is a old product with very limited support in term of hardware, accompany software and available free/commercial DVB software. In fact I own one, a lemon set with issue (refer to my earlier postings), I'm hesitate to send for RMA which meant incurring more shipping charges.

Anyway, guessed one has to rely on buyer's feedback (which a lot of time is quite sparse) when buying from oversea sites especially China.

Think you might have the same issue as me. Does this occur only when you power-off your PC? Try disconnecting the TV stick from USB port and reconnect.

occurs when i close the Totalmedia application and reopen it. could it be my the bundled antenna is weak? should i buy a better antenna?

Any other software that i can use for scanning/viewing tv channels, preferably 1 that i can manually set the frequencies inside so dont need to always auto tune

Well if you suspect that to be the case, can always connect to SCV or HDB MATV port and use that as the source.

Do a search for "free dvb" software but skip ProgDVB as it will cause BSOD during scanning.

If the location is not along the corridor or near windows, you may want to go for booster antenna instead. But if you happen to have old TV antenna like those mentioned here give it a try first, the rabbit-ear type work great for me.

Time to ditch this software, there are plenty of free DVB out there.

Geniatech/Mygica T230 is a old product with very limited support in term of hardware, accompany software and available free/commercial DVB software.

I now own the following DVB-T2/DVB-C USB sticks, a summary comparison follows:

1. TBS 5220. The most expensive, around USD$50. Under Linux, need to use TBS driver which is not in mainline kernel. Will drop 'dead' sometimes and have to restart OS.

2. Geniatech/Mygica T230. Most stable under Linux and driver in mainline kernel since 3.19. Middle tier price around USD$22.

3. Astrometa version 2. Newest purchase below USD$20. Couldn't get it to work under Linux despite kernel support. BDA driver in Windows 8 and TVR app works fairly well. BDA driver means third party PVR software works. For most people who use Windows OS, this is the obvious choice since it is cheapest and has BDA drivers for DVB-T2 and DVB-C support.
