Looking to start on smart switches. Aqara vs Tuya, any big differences in the quality or durability? Sees that tuya prices are a lot cheaper. Thinking of going for tuya zigbee system.

Another qn is, hdb had a 2 way switch made for my bto, can I just replace it with these smart switches accordingly or do I need to find a special type switch or special connection?

Thanks! :)

For 2-way switch under Tuya, you can. No need special connection (you can of course get 2 way switch on purpose but it is under the rocker type). You really don't need any 2 way switch either. Tuya has the capability to group different switches to turn them all on at the same time if you need it even if they are not interconnected.

Hi,

I have a aqara G2. Mihome have problem downloading the 12s push video to my pixel 4a. Always comes with "file download failed"

This happens after upgrading OS to android 12.

App permission is set to allow files and media, when you select it. It shows media only.

I have cleared the app cache, reinstalled and allow the access again, does not seems to work.

Tried to download the push video on my spare mi home. It works and the permission I see is, access to files and media which is different from the pixel 4a that show media only.

Anyone having similar problem or knows how to fixed this?

Thank you.

Sounds like non-neutral

your capacitor installed properly? U need to install a capacitor for each switch (not each gang) for your switches to work properly.

Non neutral definitely need capacitor. Even if you think don't need, installing it wouldn't hurt. Have you installed capacitor yet?

Aqara is directly manufactured by the company while Tuya has a lot of oem, so the qc may differ from different companies.

For the 2 way switch, you can install this so you can still use the old switch (3 wire version)

https://shopee.com.my/eWeLink-Wifi-...no-neutral-wire-needed)-i.33337179.5750374643

Thank you, any idea where to view which Tuya OEM brand is more reliable? Or are they not worth the effort and we should go for Aqara if we can?

Thank you, will just switch both the current 2-way switch to smart switch and see if it works. Maybe need to name 1 as (e.g. corridor light #1) and 2nd as corridor light #2?

Sorry, noob qn, does the Tuya smart switch (non-Neutral) comes with capacitor for each gang itself or need to buy separately?

Thanks!

Hi, I read that adding neutral to the switches seems to be recomended. However, after inspection, the electrician told me the house can't add neutral, cos internal wiring uses PVC, instead of metal. So is this true?

Also, if I buy smart switch with no neutral wire, is that enough?

Some of you mention adding a capacitor. Do I still need to ask electrician to add it if I'm using a smart switch with no neutral? If so, is it something standard which most electrician should know?

Thanks.

per switch, not per gang. Your switch even have 100gangs, you only need 1 capacitor at L1!

Also, make sure u installed the L and L1/L2/L3/L4 properly and not mixed them.

You can do that

Yes, every switch comes with 1 which is more than enough.

no?

sure. you can buy a smart switch that supports non-neutral connectivity.

Your electrician if doesn't know about this, sack them and find someone else.

I also think you should look for another electrician. You are doing reno? Then pulling neutral to the locations where you intend to have smart switches should not be an issue.

Hello everyone, good day!

I am just starting on my renovation and am looking at installing smart lights and switches. I am toying with the idea of buying items from Taobao (cause cheaper). I am specifically looking at the Yeelight downlight (M2 Pro) and Aqara D1 or H1 with neutral (the electrician is pulling the neutral wire for me). Are there any differences between those from CN and local? I assume the devices are just zigbee receivers/devices of sorts receiving commands from the hub. I will get the hubs locally or use smart things eventually.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts :)

Moes is ok,
If you plan to use homekit in the long run, then maybe aqara is for you

My own setup consists of aqara sensor, and mix of tuya/ewelink devices and use homeassistant to integrate them all.

One capacitor installed per switch, not per gang. To make it easier, you just grab the non neutral, no capacitor required by moes.

Adding neutral wire benefits you if you’re using zigbee switch (repeats zigbee signal).
If you’re using wifi type, just make sure your wifi coverage is good.

I use aqara products at my home. Bought the global M2 hub and switches from shopee.
Think the switches are not region-dependent but not too sure about the hubs. Safer to get the global version.

Think my aqara switches should be from China but they all work. I use homekit and the aqara switches are integrated into homekit nicely.

Majority here set up with aqara smart switch? Anyone with full tuya set up? Any review or regrets to share? Thinking of going with moes smart switches for all.

There are a number of people like myself on full tuya. I came from Aqara though. No regrets... yet. In fact, there are things the Aqara cannot do (my experience previously) whereas the Tuya could.

Tuya has a problem with Sensors though. If you set delay and on/off/on repeatedly on your switch, it doesn't clear the initial command. It will follow through with the command which is bad. I hope they can fix it in the future.

There are ways around it though but... it is not clean. My only complaint so far.
