doubt it.

they are probably sending data back to MOH which is difficult to do with Apple/Google API's approach which is decenterized solution.

basically they jus dont trust the users.

no, e APIs just provide a way for whoever is building e app (govtech) to retrieve e tokens on e phone. they (govtech) still have to maintain a backend. google n  dun provide any backend.

yup. the backend should notify those who are closed proximity. but GovTech must be doing something more that the API refused to do (sending such data back to their backend, which is privacy invasion). If not, there's probably no reason they cant adapt to the API.

If this is true, how does the govt expect ppl to believe anything they say?

not sure leh.

anyways given how willing people are to upgrade their iOS to the latest version. so i won't be surprised about the pick up rate of TraceTogether if it uses the Apple/Google API.

given the news that they are not, no way anyone wants an app that jiak that your battery and needs to be placed in a certain way. plus the thing is not even mandatory. good luck to them.

6 things about OpenTrace, the open-source code published by the TraceTogether team
While contact logging is decentralised, the TraceTogether team made a fundamental design choice to develop a hybrid rather than a fully decentralised system. “While it is possible to have a completely decentralised system, positive COVID-19 diagnoses still have to be authenticated to prevent abuse and fraudulent reports leading to unnecessary panic. Capacity permitting, having a human-in-the-loop system is prudent and reliable,” Bay explained.
Exposure Notification API
12. How do users report themselves as positive for COVID-19?
The mechanism for allowing users to report themselves as positive will be determined by the relevant public health authority and may vary across regions. For example, some public health authorities may allow users to verify a test result using a pin code, while others may provide different mechanisms for verification.
This Bay guy trying to smoke the government and public?

On the internet there is quite a number of article saying SG trying to make and give everyone a covid19 tracker is invasion of privacy. Especially those in USA and EU the article cause they take privacy concerns more seriously than Asian countries.

Seriously don’t understand why Tracetogether still haven’t transit to the new Apple/Google API as Apple already rollout out to most iPhone and on Android side, under Google Setting it’s already push down.

Go and read the app reviews on iOS Store, a lot of them installed but no using coz not using Apple /Google API

Quote: “privacy activists and ordinary citizens will likely be concerned about adding national identity numbers to contact tracing technologies. And even more so about potentially providing every citizen with a mandatory tracking device.”

Quote: “As with contact tracing apps, there are similar concerns regarding privacy when using wearables. As they are a small device requiring no interaction from users, it's hard to know what they are doing. According to Michael Veale, a lecturer in the law on digital rights and regulation at University College London, "users will likely find it hard to scrutinize what the device is actually doing, or what information the back-end server uses or links."

If its genuinely for seeing if we were in close proximity with a covid19 positive person, regardless of whether it an app or physical device, surely using bluetooth alone should suffice.

But if the device or app uses gps then there are genuine concerns. Its not an issue of having nothing to fear if one is not up to funny business. Its a question of why does the govt need to know where i go, how offen i go, how long i am there, etc? Its none of their business!

Its bad enough every eligible voter has a permanent voter number. Now this?

Guess we definitely won’t be seeing the Exposure Notification API on TraceTogether at all.

Apple-Google contact tracing system not effective for Singapore: Vivian Balakrishnan
https://www.straitstimes.com/singap...t-effective-for-singapore-vivian-balakrishnan

EDIT: here’s the reason why:
"There would be no way to identify how, when and whom the person was infected by or passed the infection to. The 'graph' would not be available to the contact tracers," Dr Balakrishnan wrote.

I dunno if he knows what he's talking about.

from 's API docs
Establishing User Roles
The ExposureNotification framework defines two user roles:

Affected user
When a user has a confirmed or potential exposure to COVID-19, the framework identifies them as affected and shares their diagnosis keys to alert other users to potential exposure.

Potentially exposed user
To assign a user the potentially exposed role, use the framework to determine whether a set of temporary exposure keys indicate proximity to an affected user. If so, the app can retrieve additional information such as date and duration from the framework.

from the press conference when he announced the device, he was reading from a paper when asked about privacy.. guess it's from GovTech~ lmao.

anyways can foresee the pick up rate to be low as long as it remains non-mandatory.

I assume Using the API, users will know they are in contact with cases but govt won’t know. What they want is to know, not just the user know, they want to know.

then maybe the app can allow users to notify MOH upon receiving notification that they are in close contact with a known case~?

our Tracetogether from making headlines worldwide to a major failure. :s22:

Germany’s contact tracing app using Apple API launches; somehow cost $22.7M. I think the software developers for Germany app up their price for the contract to develop the app, you want fast and good right? Pay us accordingly and kena chop carrot head price.

The monthly costs presumably include manual contact tracing, but the development cost charged by Deutsche Telekom and SAP is completely inexplicable.

SAP + German Precision I guess

for Singapore is a bit different. We have got the BlueTrace White Paper (wiki). so it's a national pride for the government to follow through.

then again. EU has also got their version called PEPP-PT. But Germany was willing to change direction after centralized reporting was flagged out as a privacy issue (like BlueTrace)

on the Australia side:
The app is built on the BlueTrace protocol originally developed by the Singaporean Government.

In the 6 May 2020 public hearing about the app, Randall Brugeaud, CEO of the Digital Transformation Agency, confirmed the DTA was looking into transitioning to the Google/Apple privacy-preserving contact tracing protocol.
