The company, founded in 1976 as a residential developer, expanded into building offices and factories eight years ago, and now has about 6.3 million square feet of industrial space, according to its website. Lim Cheng Hwa, Soilbuild’s director of capital management, declined to comment on the potential IPO.

Real estate investment trusts have raised US$8.3 billion ($10.3 billion) in Singapore share sales over the last three years, data compiled by Bloomberg Show. The 24-member FTSE Straits Times REIT Index is up about 40% in that period. Mapletree Industrial Trust, which owns business parks, factories and warehouses, has risen almost 50% since its $853 million IPO in October 2010, the data show.

The Singapore government last month imposed as much as 15% in stamp duties on sellers of industrial properties such as warehouses and logistic buildings to curb speculation, after prices doubled in the past three years and outpaced the increase in rents. The REIT Index has advanced 2.5% since the measures were announced.

Soilbuild raised $10.7 million in an IPO in 2005, selling shares at 31 cents apiece, and was taken private by Lim five years later at 80 cents a share.

so is it more logical to eat the drp or take cash?

I wouldn't choose the DRP because (1) I will end up with odd lots which will be harder to sell in future, (2) the price is unattractive and (3) part of the point of owning a REIT for me is to receive cash distributions. However if you own a large number of units so the odd lot problem is not so bad, you like the price, and you are in it for the long haul, then you can consider it.

it depends on your objective. do you really need the cash? if not, its good to get the dividends reinvested so your stock value can go higher at a much faster rate.

selling odd shares is not really a big issue. remember since the company issues scrips, chances are there are many investors who will try to buy odd shares to round up in contrast to some who tries to sell the odd shares. so there will always be a market to buy/sell of odd shares.

base on my experience, i have no problem to buy/sell odd shares for numerous counters.

Should I buy REITS now? Because I was checking out the various REITS and most of them are at the highest in the past year. Will the prices drop?

No but. Just do it. When reits go higher u regret. When they go lower then u buy more. High or low as long as u hold a position u will prosper in the long run
