I am interested to become a UberX driver and am planning to sign up with Uber soon.

I have a full time job presently and I have a 8 year old car that is fully paid up.

I have registered a sole proprietorship with ACRA. I have not bought the commercial insurance and have not transferred car ownership to my sole proprietor yet.

Anyone UberX driver wants to refer me (I think you can get some incentive from Uber by referring someone right?) can PM me. Fastest finger first.

I have just
(1) Registered a company (sole proprietor)
(2) Bought insurance for the car
(3) Transferred my car from my personal name to my company
(4) Register with Uber

Let me share my experience as my contribution back. I am using my own vehicle, so I am unable to say anything on rented vehicle.

I did (1), (2), (3) and (4) on separate days, but if plan properly and start early, all if not, at least (2), (3) and (4) could be done in the same day.

(1) Register a company (sole proprietorship)

This one was quite straight forward. Just go to www dot bizfile dot gov dot sg, register as sole proprietor. Thes only thing to note is at the place where I need to enter “nature of business”, I have to enter the code 49219 (for PASSENGER LAND TRANSPORT NEC).

At the payment page, when I was prompted whether I also want to buy the business profile, I chose yes because this will be needed later for insurance, LTA and Uber.

(2) Insurance

From a document in Uber website, I got this email address where I wrote to get a quotation for the insurance for my car to drive for Uber.

After I got the quotation by email, I printed the insurance proposal form and filled it up. I also printed the email (which shows the quotation), printed the business profile (of my company), printed the LTA logbook for my car and went down to the insurance stand inside Uber office at Sin Ming to get the cover note for the insurance for my car.

I submitted the insurance proposal form with those other documents I printed above to the insurance people and they were able to process and let me have the cover note on the spot.

Inside Uber office, I could see AXA and Great Eastern insurance people setting up their own stand there to help process the insurance.

(3) Transferred my car from my personal name to my company - LTA

I went to LTA at Sin Ming. Queued at the reception and told the lady that I wish to transfer my car from my personal to my company. She gave me a queue number and a form to fill in.

The form to fill in at LTA is M01. In fact, it could be downloaded at www dot onemotoring dot com dot sg

While waiting for my turn, I filled in the form M01 and sat there waited.

My number was called after waiting for about 20 minutes, which was quite fast actually. At the officer’s table, I submitted the form, my NRIC, the business profile and insurance cover note.

The officer asked me whether I am transferring for Uber, I answered yes. She told me there are quite a number of people transferring their cars for Uber. OIC.

She asked for a letter from my company to LTA saying that I want to convert my car to Z10. Oh no, I did not have such a letter with me! The officer was kind enough to give me a blank piece of paper for me to write on the spot. Heng ah…
So guy, please remember to prepare a simple letter from your company to LTA to say you want to convert the vehicle to Z10.

Because I got overpayment for my road tax, so I did not have to pay the $11 transfer fee.

I got 3 letters from LTA, one is to me saying I am no longer the owner, one is to my company saying it is now the owner and one to my company saying the car is converted to Z10.

(4) Register with Uber - Uber Office

After LTA, I went straight to Uber office which is nearby.

When I went in, OMG! the place was full of people like polyclinic!

There was a queue at the table near the door, so I joined. When it was my turn, I told the girl I want to be a Uber driver. She asked for my name, email and handphone number. Then she said go in and wait for my name to be called.

When I went inside, even more people! No place to sit! (I don’t remember so many people when I came a few days ago to get the insurance cover note.)

Someone’s name was called and I took his seat. Then the wait began… Believe it or not, I waited around 2 hours before my name was called! Luckily in between there was quite a bit of election news I could read.

When my name was called, I was asked to go into a classroom with those other whose names were called. Then everyone was asked whether they had already registered online (if not, Uber staff will help to register there and then).

We were each given a slip of paper where we need to fill in our particulars. We were also each given a plastic folder where we were told to put in our NRIC, driving licence, business profile, LTA letter (for Z10 conversion) and taxi licence (if available). For those without taxi licence, Uber will do a background check and it will cost us $30.

There was this briefing done by this girl, giving us the website addresses, a bit on the incentive and a short video.

We were then told to download and install the Uber driver app. The girl gave instructions for both Android and iPhone.

While we were waiting for the app to be installed, we were each given a “goodie bag” with things like usb car charger, handphone holder, Uber decal, one stack of cards for us to write our referral code to give away to other (to earn cash incentives) and the instructions to use the Uber driver app.

Then all of us have to try to login using the app we just installed. If successful, we may leave and start driving Uber!

Like one bro mentioned, there are a few chio bus working in Uber. But they are quite dao and pokerface. Must be all the lao tiko Uber driver go there and ogle at them until they become like this.

I just complete my first Uber trip last week!

Actually completed one trip and got one trip cancelled on the same day.

Initially forgot how to turn on the meter - touch or swipe? Lucky the passenger is patient enough.

The route plotted by the Uber app is the same as in most GPS device - not exactly the most efficient route but it gets you there.

After dropping off the first passenger, I was almost reaching home and another job came and I got it. Unfortunately the traffic was heavy and I needed to U-turn at a traffic junction. After a while the passenger cancelled the trip, probably tired of waiting or got grabcar instead.

So far I have made 2 trips.

My car FC is 14km/l and uses 92 petrol (presently $2.01/l).

My car is fully paid up. I will leave out expenses like servicing (<$2k per year), insurance (about $1200 per year), parking (<$200 per month), depreciation, etic.

After minus ERP and Uber Fee,

1st trip (21.02km in 42 minutes) I get $19.74
Petrol cost = 21.02 / 14 * 2.01 = $3.02
Profit = $19.74 - $3.02 = $16.72

2nd trip (31.82km in 27 minutes) I get $20.88
Petrol cost = 31.82 / 14 * 2.01 = $4.57
Profit = $20.88 - $4.57 = $16.31

Total profit for 2 trips = 16.72 + 16.31 = $33.03

As I have only completed 2 trips, I cannot say driving Uber is lucrative, but it is good to make some extra pocket $$$.

If I remember correctly, it should be $65 plus $3.50 to buy the business profile. So total is $68.50 or thereabouts.

ok... I applied for business firm (sole proprietor) and had to pay $15 for name registration. Then after about an hour, I was informed that the registration has been approved, and I have to pay $50 for registration of business.

and then $3.30 for business profile.

With the business profile, can go to change insurance for car and apply to change to Z10.

Hi interested in joining uber.. just some quick question.
i) can we register as pte ltd to join uber? (not sole proprietor) i understand the in case anything, sole proprietor might even have to pay with their private asset, whereas pte ltd just limited to paid up capital (as low as $2).
ii) transferring to commercial insurance and to company will it affect the omv/parf (not sure the correct term) value?
iii) for normal toyota axio wondering what's the insurance fee like?
