My fb friend who's doing uber have something to say about this.

I am not trying to dissuade anyone from driving Uber, but to share some insights for your consideration if you are thinking of driving for Uber full-time. I will keep this as short as I can.
I have personally test-driven for Uber for 3 days (12 hrs/day) a couple of months ago and it is enough time for me to understand how the system works.
First, do not be seduced by the $5,000 fare advertisement. Uber takes 20% of the fares as commission so assuming you manage to make $5,000 in fares driving every day, you really only make $4,000.
Your car rental is ~ $1500/mth.
Your fuel cost is ~ $900/mth ($30 per day over 30 days).
Your season parking for commercial vehicle = $185
$4,000 - $1,500 - $900 - $185 = $1,415
So, you can see you are really not left with a lot at the end of the month.
And woes on you if you are hit with any traffic violation. Some are unavoidable like customers insisting on being picked up at camera controlled zone or bus-lanes during bus lane operating hours.

Normal income tax for individual, just like any other sole proprietor.

The exception is if you set up a private limited company to receive payment from Uber, then your private limited company has to pay the corporate income tax.
