What to do. They claim they tested all flaps with their professional testing eqps and its all no leak. So its my fault and they going to entertain me only one last time.

Seriously i dont understand why "Did you open the flaps and expose the phone to water" is a viable question that sony ask me.
They think i love spoiling my $1k phone and i love waiting at service centre to get new phones. To them its like my hobby and passion to visit bishan.

But its still a mystery to me how so much water got into my replacement set. In the 12 hour time frame i held it in my hands, i only took it out for a jog. Nothing. Dont even dare to bring it into the bathroom with me anymore.
they keep bs one la. My Xperia Z is rubber torn so water went in. Rubber not included in warranty. Whatthesh1t right

if you lucky enough, nothing happen on the phone, you won't have to worry about it. Why not get the z ultra. it is much better.

I agree. While my xperia z is servicable, its really the best phone to me and i enjoyed using it.
Its not sony's fault sony singapore service suck.
Dont blame the phone, and i have to give some credit to the design engineers, but blame sony singapore support's management.

Get them to provide you with the report and picture taken using their so called professional equipment that they used to test your phone to determine that with all flaps closed and phone is watertight.

Ip55/57 are supposed to withstand 1m depth for nax 30 mins before water can penetrate into the phone.

I have this feeling that the current batches of xz has quality issues.

If Sony still keeps denying it, you guys should use the lemon law against them provided the phone was purchased within 6 months.

It is not fare for consumers to suffer and face inconviences and still being bullied even when of no fault.

Time to make tyrant manufacturers pay for the damage caused.

Caveat Emptor, Sony Xperia

Why the title Buyer's Beware? Here's a few points to ponder.

As with all the great gadgets in the world, the success of a product depends on several factors. Product, quality, and most importantly, Aftersales Services.

But Sony's Xperia Aftersales service, and potentially all Sony products, is suspect.

For instance, how many of the readers have had something wrong with their devices, while under warranty, to bring down their gadgets to the service centre, only to be told that the faulty part in question is not under the warranty blanket?

It seems that if the Service Centre can get away with it, they will try to push everything that needs replacing FOC under this heading, so as to maximise their profits by reducing their outlay to the minimum. So parts and services that can be classified as Not covered, will be pushed as such. It looks whittish and cannot stick anymore. Anyone who uses screen protectors on their devices will know what I am talking about.

Here's a case in point.

My Sony Xperia Z, bought from Singtel under a 2 year contract, had a flayed edge to the screen.

But this is different. Apparently this is the LAMINATED film covering the screen of the Xperia phone itself. It's sticks to the screen very securely, and has the Sony Logo printed on it. But my mistake was that since the edge is flayed, and it looked like a screen protector, I brought it down to a Handphone shop a friend owns, to have the 'screen protector' replaces. I showed the phone to my friend who insists that Sony Xperia Z set does not need a screen protector, so I showed him the screen of my phone. He was speechless when he saw the flayed edge. So he also started to believe that the Singtel shop had added a screen protector to the phone.

But when the technician of the shop tried to take the 'screen protector' off, he realised from the resistence, that it was indeed a laminated screen, not a screen protector.

So I brought it down to the Service Centre at Bishan. They told me that it was not covered under the Warranty and quoted me a price of $700 to replace that laminated film. I told him that it had flayed, thereby it should be classified as a defect and should be replaced FOC.

They the took a picture of the screen to send to SONY Singapore for advice. And I went back to await their reply. 3 days later, I had an email acknowleging my problem and that they would get back to me.

A month later, I went back to the Service Centre. They told me that the photo they took earlier wasn't clear and took another photo. I asked the technician how long before they can contact me. They said I should receive a reply in about 3-4 days. So, again, I went home to await the email from the service centre/Sony.

3 weeks later, I again went down to the Service Centre. This time, they said that the film is still not covered under the Warranty, but they offered to replace it for me for $300. I was getting pretty pieved. So I asked them what would happen if I removed the film altoghere, with an aim to replace it with a screen protector(the flaying edge was getting unsightly). They told me that it would not affect the device per se, HOWEVER, (and this part really gets my goat), by removing the film, I would void the warranty for parts for the device. I don't understand, if it is not covered under the warranty in the first place, why would removing it void my warranty?

Clearly, there are problems with SONY's warranty coverage. If you think this is an isolated case, I suggest that if you own a Sony device, look carefully at the screen's edge. You might find that there is a film over the entire screen, and what happend to my phone, could also happen to your device. Afterall, it's used to incorporate the Sony logo. It also acts to protect the screen from casual knocks and scratches. So it's part of the screen. Why it's not covered under the Warranty I will never understand. And that is why I will NEVER buy another Sony product again for the forseeable future.

That's the anti-shatter film...
