later kana bite by my dad hard :s13:=:p

thinking of another way in for the cable :s13:

later kana F by the contractor for being too troublesome... maybe have to use the other room to my room method... one straight line in after passing the entrance of storeroom... (other room got scv point but no spare plug lol :s13:) only thing need to drill 2 holes under the aircon for both rooms... both are wood holding up the aircons... dont know how much damage the old wood can endured for drilling
Yo bro, there is no such thing as being too troublesome. You have your rights on how the trucking and fibre to be laid. Insist on your rights.

For those contractors, they just want to do an easy job and get out. Afterall, if per household they save 1 hour of the job, that means the contractor end up earn more (contractor company is paid on per household installation).

And if you are willing to pay for extra distance of the cable, insist on your rights to exercise that option.

For me, the ah-neh team lead keep trying to persuade me to drop idea of installation in the room, keep saying everyone install in living room and wireless sufficient to cover other areas. The ah-neh just keep persuade and persuade, even right until the end of installation still trying to persuade and saying don't understand why I want to waste money to install so far into the house.

Anyway, it's just $99 extra to lay all the way into where my central networking and in-house network patching is. What he does not know and understand is that wireless speed/throughput can never match that of wired connection.

How to really benefit from a 200Mbps connection when the wireless connection can't sustain that kind of throughput (even with 802.11n)!!!

One thing for sure, I don't want my living room to turn into central networking spot in the future.

u extend another 15m

firstly thought of installing another scv tv point but it cost so much...then the open net letter came... lucky... thus no need; now just need to book appt, wait for them to fix, test and finally for me to take up one of fibre plan promotion...hope good good ones together with mobile internet plan... in sept 2011=:p so just need to endure 7mths then no more cable internet :D maybe take up M1 fibre plan...and the unused scv tv point gave back to my dad for his local programs... :s13:

after CNY then call them to fix the signal issues... local channels so grainy pictures despite using Sharp Aquos tv :( it could be free if it is their problem otherwise pay the transport fees which is cheaper than a new scv tv point :s13: and still got money to spare if i extend another 5m for fibre :s13:

btw so far no noise yet since my block got the letters already... some of them could be waiting to see who do first and check out their skills lol :s13: or maybe after first few days of CNY then do :s13:

hope they got skill enough to drill... and install the fibre and the tp...

saw some of the workers doing the upgrading last time... quite scary ones... :( not always first time ok ones... keep on patching up...even the patching up works bad... example a newly lay cement start cracking up the next day :s22:

so far no drilling sound / music heard... could be after cny then start or someone waiting to see if they have good skills to install first... waiting for the first one to be Guinea pig :s13:

Hi guys, my OpenNet installation is mid-Feb and wanna ask you all for some advice/clarification:-

My PC is in my bedroom and I would want to have a wired connection instead of wireless. If i understood the set up correctly, I should have my TP installed in my bedroom. From that point, the ONT will be connected to the TP in my bedroom. Please correct me if I am wrong at this point.

After the above, I am lost liao...I know the next step is to sign up with telco for a service plan but I am not sure what to expect...but i hope to:-

1. Have a wired connection to my desktop PC in my bedroom
2. Wireless connection to my other electronics, eg iPhone, PS3

How should I go abt doing this?

Any advice will be much appreciated...thanks in advance!

1st qn I cant answer directly

TP date ah, i didnt get the sms when i register online jus now

Well, things spoil after sometime, so.....
Anyway, you can unscrew the isolator source/input and connect direct to ur splitter first. No more issue change to a new isolater.

Install the TP in living room.
Dump the ONT & wireless RG in living room together with the TV

Pull a long ethernet wire to your room

There, cheap easy and 'wired'

That is to say, the wireless RG is somewhat like our router, with ethernet ports for direct wired connection to my PC, in addition to wireless function?

Also, what is the other "difficult" and "expensive" wired option? Coz I dun really want a wire to travel from my living to my bedroom leh...:(

Yes, the RG is like your typical wireless router but can frankly tell u, the Huawei RG provided by M1 has lousy wireless capability.

Fibre from TP to ONT into your room before Ethernet cable from ONT/Router to your comp.

TP directly installed in your room..

Either way, u can make use of existing trunking to hide the cables..

Ok, just to confirm my understanding:-

TP (in room) --> ONT (in room) --> RG --> PC

So in effect, am I also right to say that it could be similar to my current set up which is:-

SCV point (in room) --> Cable modem (in room) --> Wireless router --> PC

The RG, those provided by service providers (M1/ST/SH)...if really not good, can buy from open market?

Sorry, super noob at this...:o

One thing to note(For M1 only), if you dont need the free VoIP services, u can choose not to get the RG at all and use ur own router or direct Ethernet connection from the ONT to your rig.

1) That's correct
2) To my understanding, only M1 allows u to use your own router if you dont wish to use their VoIP services and thus, dont have to pay $2 monthly for the rental of their RG.

Which in this case if u decide to use their RG, u cannot swop to another router or go direct ONT > PC as and when you like as the RG's S/N is tag to their database. There wont be another network connection. In an event of RG failure, u can bring it to any M1 outlet for an exchange, reach home, call up their Tech support and update them on the new S/N. If you dont wish to use their RG anymore, it will take around 1 week or more before you can use your own router.

This is to the best of my understanding by a M1 Fibre BB user.
