Hi for those who had it installed, i have some queries.

My place has just been renovated half year back with tv feature wall. Am wondering if they opennet folks come install the termination point will be at my TV point (which is currently inside the TV feature wall)?? If that's the case they have to do drilling and casing from outside the door all the way to the TV point? if so leychey i may have to forgo it cos i hate to repaint everything again

Also, does the 100mbps fibre really differs from the 100mbps from cable connection? I am currently on M1 100mbps cable and constantly i can get ~70-80mbps from my iMac which i think is quite good le.

I'm not at home now and got a call from my dad saying the OpenNet contractors juz showed up on my door step...my appt is suppose to be tmr morning, not saying that I do not appreciate them working on a Sunday, but they came without informing!!!

So I spoke with the contractor over the phone and told him I wan the TP to be installed in my bedroom and he claimed that the TP must be installed beside SCV point in the living room. If installed anywhere in the house, they will not be responsible for it not to be working. Also, he claimed that by putting the TP in my bedroom, I will not be able to watch tv in the living room & my parents' bedroom.

Now, I've been reading up a lot of info from the official website as well as asking around in HWZ forums...my understanding is that the contractor's claims above are untrue...and I intend to maintain my stand that I want it installed in my bedroom. I've asked the contractor to come back tmr instead...

Please lemme have ur views, if I may be wrong in any aspects...many thanks in advance...

fiber can use for mio tv, and eventually will be extended to the "unified set top box" in future.

then again, its 100% possible to lay cables or use powerline networking(your mileage may vary) to reach your tv, so there shouldn't be any worries about installing in your bedroom.

Advise is to install it at a location where you can minimize cable pulling, or somewhere central in your house if you intend to cover your home with wireless.

That is why I was asking you those questions earlier about wanting to watch "future TV" programs/services in your living room. That is, you will need to lay a cable from your bedroom to your living room TV area.

cheers

from the feedback is that u need to wait for the TP to be activated, abt 1 to 3 mth frm TP installation then sign up with ISP
the ISP will arrange for the installation of the ONT and RG.....

My case is one of a kind. They came in, advised to place near TV point which is just next to my window and scv cable entrance point, so they made use of the existing "hole" to push in the cable. I wanted it in my bedroom at first as all my PCs are there, ok, I'm not the confrontational type so let them be. However, they tried to "reduce workload" and pushed the fiber cable in though the existing opening though it was really really tight..

End result -> my scv cable got damaged, I cannot watch any TV channels except for Channel U.

Called up Starhub -> direct to HDB, HDB come down, direct to Starhub again, Starhub come down, say need to put new cable, cost $140+, say need to get opennet to come down and agree they damaged the cabling and pay for the replacement.

Opennet? No replies as of now. Unable to watch TV since Sep last year..

Please ensure that they do not push and hack and damage your scv cabling, else you will end up like me.. arghz!!!!

wah really that bad... they must be on really tight schedules...cut corners here and there

think i now required them to drill a hole... what so difficult drilling a small hole and new trunking?

will be asking them install in my room... at most i pay for extra 5m for 33...

i also ask this questions to them before, if they used existing trunking or installing during that time the fibre got dmg or wires got dmg how?

she reply back... and ask for my address... what logic is this?:s22:

second reply back is the usual stuffs... firs 15m is free and from where and need to be near where...:s22:

hope mine existing cable dont dmg... it is expensive to install a new one like panDaz is having problem now...

now still awaiting them to fix signal weak issues... one week already... whole block affecting... thus is FOC...

will be following them closely and watch / stare at them to ensure they dont anyhow do and create more problem for me... will be taking photo while they doing... and ensure that the scv channels are working and internet working and have signal on the TP and not low or no signal at all... and note down both name of the guys fixing it and a telephone numbers to F them if they dmg either of them or gave me signal issues...and after that email to IDA and them to remind them...

one thing, can i not sign the letter if i find that they dmg either the scv cable and internet or have no signal or low signals at the TP?

the guy who did mine was quite good and very familiar with the process.
also he was very careful not to dirty my place. he also patch up all the gaps of the btwn the trunkings.
with regard to using the existing "scv hole", maybe u can ask the guy to widen the hole b4 he insert the fiber thru to avoid damage to the scv cable. they are using the scv cable to guide the fiber thru the hole.

if possible dont shoot them, i believe most of them will try to do their best to do a good job for u as they dont want to be sent back due to complaints.....
just tell them to watch out for those concerns that u hve b4 they start the work.

hope very thing is fine on your installation.....

i m happy with mine and just waiting to sign up during the march exhibition.......

If yours just installed maybe you need to wait till Apr or May then can sign up, need to wait for whole block to be completed + backend testing to complete.
