I received a letter from opennet claiming that my area back end fiber testing has been completed. I can go to any ISP to subscribe for optical Internet. May I know do you need to pay for the installation of the TP? What other installation charges need to pay?

I did not have to pay for the TP installation when I signed up for M1 fibre. You may have to confirm this with the ISP you select.
As my understanding, installation of TP (up to 15m from entrance, subjective)is a national wide infrasructure project funded by govt.

Hope someone can help..

Our estate (condo) is getting conflicting info from Open Net (ON). Initially their site inspector (a contractor as well) said that installation via riser/SCV trunking is not possible, and hence access panels in front of all doors, all floors, have to be done. So the condo did that. Then another subcon came to do the install and thus far, they've been using the riser and existing trunking.

Worse, they've been charged everyone $80 since it is not surface trunking on the floor or ceiling. They just pulled the fibre cable through the trunking in the riser and set up the TP at the same area as the SCV box, fuse box etc. It's a cleaner solution than fugly surface trunking or drilling through false ceilings etc.

But I read their brochure - if using existing trunking, it should be FOC. Why must pay the subcon then? Are we being cheated?

First you may wanna check with your condo management if that was the case. Condo have their own restriction on how the cables are being lay as they are particular on the appearance like cables here and there.

Secondly, u may wanna highlight the issue to OpenNet, I know some subcon are charging customer themselves. I had 1 customer whom OpenNet wanna charged her additional $100 for going through trucking etc, eventually complain and few days later, another person came over and installed for her free.

Can you PM me as well. I have not decided on a provider and I've got an appt with OpenNet this month. If can get waiver for the $220 relocation, I think I would sign up first. Thanks.

Funded by tax payer to be exact.

From May 1, all new buildings must come with fibre broadband points for every home. Within the home, developers must also lay structured cables in every room for distributing the fibre broadband signals.

The new requirements were listed in the Infocomm Development Authority's (IDA) new buildings code released on Wednesday. This is part of the Government's push to have every building installed with the necessary equipment for mobile and fixed broadband services.

All building owners - new and existing - must also set aside rent-free space in the development for telcos to install mobile equipment including base stations for adequate indoor coverage. A base station transmits and receives signals from users' cellphones within a defined radius.

IDA said it wants to keep its code of practice relevant to consumer needs - particularly amid rising fibre broadband and smartphone usage. Mr Leong Keng Thai, IDA deputy chief executive and director-general for telecoms and post, said that changes in the building code are "will benefit consumers and improve their mobile and broadband experiences".

My new house coming in next year March. I suspect no opennet box also. Then how ah?

call them come fix must pay?

It depends. All new homes are to be outfitted with the OpenNet TP since May 1. If it's a new unit, then most likely it should be around. Otherwise, when you get your address, simply check OpenNet » Coverage Check and you can see the rollout timeframe (it should be free the first time round). Usually for new units, it'll be installed for free when you sign up for fibre broadband services with a provider.

If don't have, you have to wait for them to write to you to offer you the installation if I am not mistaken.

Guys, just wanna check if opennet will not install for free since the last changes from the government?

i was told by opennet that i should approach ISP for this free installation of the termination point in my house.

however, most ISP will require you to sign a contract with them before arranging the so call free installation by opennet.
