Nettling people came to install the fibre connection for my house 1 month ago and till now they have not solved the problem which is on their side. Star hub sales personal called me saying this could take 2-3 months to solve. I was like WTF!?

I saw you post on the other thread.

Anyway, 1st read the Home Owners' Guide by Netlinktrust to have a better understanding of how they carry out the installation:

http://www.netlinktrust.com/residential/home-owners-guide/

You want to have good wifi coverage for the whole house, this suggests that the wireless router should be placed in a central position. However, if the kitchen is not a priority, you can consider placing it nearer to the bedrooms.

Next, the locations for TP and ONT are rather flexible. While the first 15m of fibre cable is free, you only have to pay an additional $33 for every 5m extra length. TP and ONT is connected by another optical fibre. As far as I know, the standard length that comes with the ONT (supplied by ISP) is 5m. Between ONT and the wireless router, they are connected by lan cable which usually comes with the router, perhaps 1.8m in length. You can always buy a longer cable if necessary.

With these, I think you should be able to plan accordingly taking into consideration your furniture, decoration, etc.

Home plug will be restricted to the locations of your power points. You don't have much options.

Edit: distance between TP and ONT can be extended beyond 5m if you buy your own fibre cable.

priority shld be given to the wifi signal affecting the bedrooms, which always got the lowest signal if blocked by the walls. signal in the living room is least affected as it is a open space.

Nettling people came to my place to install in end august. After that tell me have some problem with their distribution. Today they came to check whats wrong. Appointment is 9.30-10.30 and they came at 10.15. Checked and tell me nothing is wrong and asked me whats wrong. I told them they are the bloody one to tell me something is wrong. Waste of my f*cking time.

NetLink Trust said they completed 88 per cent fibre installation in residential segment within 3 working days. You got such good experience?

can we just buy the fibre cable, for the TP to ONT, from SLS and fix ourself?

Yes, as long as you bought the correct type..... I laid the 10m long fibre cable in advance before the installation of ONT, so later don't have to shift again....

Not really from my and other bro/sis experience. Some of us encountered contractors who tend to recommend/prefer placing the TP near the TV point nearest the entrance. Reson being most people just place it there. It took some insistence before they relented and let me place the TP in the computer room almost exactly a 15M cable run away. No regrets with my decision, as it would otherwise mean my internet is bottlenecked due to wireless or homeplugs...

You did a good job by telling them the best location so you enjoy it now.

can advise how much you paid for?

Bought it 1 year ago, roughly about $20....normal type..
There is armoured type too but at about twice the price...

Btw, you don't have to buy any cable unless you want something longer than the default one.....I forgot the default one is 2m or 3m......

I just did my FTP installation today. I pity those 2 Malaysian guys who did the installation. My house was the 1st one and they wanted to come at 8 am initially?! I asked how many houses they have to go today. They said they got 11 installations to do for the day. woah!

Another guy came to do the splicing and testing. Just curious, what is the power measurement reading should be at the port 1 of my FTP? It reads -18 dBm for me.
