opennet said they will put more resources to overcome the problem.

But if the problem is an infrastructure capacity issue, getting more contractors is not going to help much.

My original OpenNet date was 26 Jun 2013. However, I'm already on SingNet, so ViewQwest will have to use Port 2. To date though, OpenNet is still not able to confirm on when they can activate the second port.

Open Net is coming to install the terminal point. My initial plan is to install the TP in the study room since it's mainly for internet. Is there benefits if I install in living room?

If you are going to use MR or VQ, they have the VPN service that allow you to subscribe and stream to US media content providers like Netflix, Hulu etc. Best would be to stream it via cable.

I read the earlier page that the Open Net test reading needs to be below 1.0 Has that been changed? Today the Open Net technician told me good reading range is between 17 to 26. The reading taken was 17.89 and he said it's ok.

Hi guys.

Just got my TP installed few days ago.
Today my ISP came to install the ONT and RG.

I wasn't at home when OpenNet and ISP came to install therefore the TP, ONT and RG was installed in the living room next to the TV....

I am using my computer in my room and currently using wireless. T_T

Was thinking to do cabling to connect PC and RG through wire as to maximize the performace

Should I extend
1) fibre cable (green one, connecting TP to ONT) - ONT and RG in my room
2) Ethernet cable(connecting ONT to RG) - ONT in living room and RG in room)
2) Ethernet cable(connecting RG to PC) - ONT and RG in living room

Which setup would have lesser loss of signal?
Bedroom to tp is around 25m..

also.. I am on 150mbps plan.
do I need to buy cat5e or cat6 Ethernet cable?

saw some post on different cable having different performance..

thanks! :) :)

I not professional but if I were you I would cable up from rg to pc, and use cat5 cable because I have low budget :p At least thats how I did it for my own home network.

Sharing my family's experience so far with OpenNet.

Background:
Checked with OpenNet, they say that my home, a landed property, is ready for fiber installation, but I had missed the rollout date for my area. That was back when my home was being renovated and we didn't really notice that they had sent us a letter for this. So no choice, we decided to look around for a way to waiver off this initial charge. Come IT Show 2013 in March, Starhub had offer to waiver off this, thus we decided to sign up, since we had cable TV and mobile subscriptions already. During sign up, we were informed that the installation might take a few weeks to a little over a month to arrange and complete, which was understandable since there's a lot of sign up atm. So everything up to this point was fine and all.

Now comes the installation experience, and that is where everything went downhill.

Note: I can't give exact dates atm since this was arranged with my brother and not myself personally.

1st time: OpenNet arrived, found that the home is NOT ready for fiber installation. They said that they will need to arrange to have people pull the cabling over to connect to my home. (Here's where a big issue of what they meant earlier that our house is ready and we had missed the free installation window, thus now have to pay for the whole installation)

2nd time: OpenNet arrived and now say that the manhole area to access the trunking etc is blocked, and now had to arrange for people to come dig and clear the area.

3rd time: This was a week or two ago, OpenNet came down again, however, they say that the manhole area was flooded, and they didn't bring a pump to clear it, so they will return 2 days later. 2 days later, they were "No Show", and never contact us to re-arrange another date.

Yesterday, we went to Starhub CS to raise a ticket with them about OpenNet's no-show and all these delay (wasn't their fault but since they are the ones in contact with OpenNet, we had to go through them). Today, I heard from my brother that OpenNet told Starhub that they need 2 months before they can arrange to come install our TP.

Since March to now, minus +/- 1 month for the first arrangement, it has been 3 months or so and still our TP isn't installed and OpenNet still say that they need another 2 months before they can arrange to have someone come down. I highly suspect they will again have some sort of problem then. So now I'm looking at 5 months (minus off the 1 month directly after sign up with Starhub) with no idea if even then I can get my TP installed or not.

TLDR: OpenNet took 3 months and the TP still haven't installed, claimed that my home was ready but it wasn't and wanted to charge me for missing "free" rollout if I had asked them to install it and not via the ISP method. Now claims that need another 2 months before can arrange for another appointment.

My issue lies with my ISP and not OpenNet directly. Here it goes:

24 July 9am: Installation time is between 9-11am. Open Net arrives and install the Termination Point (TP) without any hassle. Took them 45min to 1hour to complete. They lay the cables in the house and chop chop finish for the ones outside too. There were around 3-4 guys doing it.

After that, he passed me the form to sign and tell me to check the particulars all. Each question he go through with me and see if they have made any errors. Before he left, he told me that my ISP will come in the following week, and do the necessary then I can certainly enjoy the fiber broadband.

30 July 4pm: My installation is 4-6pm so I took leave from work just to see the ISP getting the installation of fiber. 445pm came and still no sign of them. Called them up, and was told they could not make it because open net didn't install my TP.

I told them that opennet came last week, and what were they trying to pull? Eventually, he told me that open net told them yesterday, 29 July 2013 that my area was not Fiber Ready and they have difficulty setting up access point. My rant was not because I took a wasted leave but rather the lack of responsibility to inform me.

Issue 1: If that was the case, then how, why did open net still proceed with the installation the week before? The onus here is with Opennet to inform me or my ISP? My contract is with my ISP so I believe it is in their hands to inform me that they are not able to proceed with any installation. They do have 24 hours to do so, but no, they didnt even inform me (even during installation hours of 4-6pm).

Issue 2: My ISP kept blaming open net for not telling me and that I am being unreasonable for calling them to rectify the issue. Told me they will reschedule the date (next week or sth). I kept pressing my ISP why I was not informed and how will they know next week then will resolve when he JUST told me he had NO BLOODY IDEA how long will open net take to respond to him.

He nicely told me when open net call them then they will inform me. Firstly, open net informed them yesterday, but they didnt inform me so what makes me think they will be diligent the second time around?

Anger aside, I called open net to clarify the matter and was told it will take at least 2-3 months before my area is fiber ready. But the website shows my area is ready, I received letter for installation as well as i have the TP in my home. I will soon be Internet-Less coz my contract with singnet (under retention plan) will be ending soon -__-

So am I missing something here? My neighbours have their respective ISP installing fiber for them. I spoke to them and they were like "ya, now have fiber already etc etc".
