Today I received a surprise call from Open Net. They want to bring forward my TP installation date from next Thur to tomorrow. Let's see if any issues tomorrow.

MR just finished its installation. Took no more than 15 minutes. You are right, a different reading was obtained. I did not do structured cabling and is using powerline transmission. not ideal but no complaints.

So my ISP (VQ) has today came down and install.

They will do a signal test again, but probably the device is different from OpenNet and hence the reading is also different one.

Depending on ISP and plan, your mileage might different.

For me, as the IPTV (VQTV, something like Apple TV) is out of stock, hence it was not brought in.

One Voice (Digital Home Line) and the Fiber was connected accordingly. The installation should not take more than 15 mins though, to 30 mins.....

The speed test result (Local) is very impressive for me (As my location, the signal is not the best anyway) and Wi-Fi directly can watch myTVB (Geo-locked to Hong Kong, similar to Toggle equivalent there) etc.

Watch Toggle Catch Up no buffer at all. But yah, ON installation is more complicated than the part 2 installation from ISP.

Congrats! :) just make sure u are around to supervise and check properly how best to run the cable. Their suggestion usually is not the best .... Mine almost wanted to open my existing trunking. Crazy! In the end just need to drill a small hole at the corner of my wall just above the electrical and tv points.

sorry. don't use xunlei.

i dunno what speedtest is good. used speedtest.net. Download speed at 90 to 95 Mbps and upload speed at 42 to 47 Mbps

can let me know what other tests u want me to run?

Setup at home is as such

TP --> ONT --> N66U --> power line adaptor 1 ---> power line adaptor 2 --> dlink switch ---> desktop.

Unkle job welly easy
Its the bangala job that you must pay very close attention with. Cos its the splicing and joining part. Never do well high loss.

Sian Starhub came over just now to install the Fibre connection but found out that the TP is having high loss issues so aborted the installation. :(

Installed by bangala. Jin emo now. :(

So today, they came to install the TP. First thing when they came here, I told them how I want the trunking to run, and they immediately started work. To be honest, the 3 man team was pretty fast in getting things done. However, they also created a big mess as well. Haha.
So firstly, they were suppose to drill a hole in the wall to one of the bedrooms, but in the end, the person drilling end up drilling at an angle upwards, so it cut through just below the beam.
Secondly, their hands were quite dirty when they got here. So I got a lot of finger marks on my wall... So gonna repaint over it since I will be painting over the trunking anyway.
Thirdly, I suggest moving things away from where the TP will be installed, and if you have parquet floor, better do something to cover it. They will bump and drop things/ tools.

All in all, it was an alright experience. Unfortunately, they did not let me see the signal strength. When I asked the guy doing the cabling, he told me it was fine, that's all. :o

Unlikely the same. They got so many bangalas. Those doing my area all not in OpenNet tee one. :s22:

Same as the ones that came over today. I thought they were from the construction site nearby. :s13:

Anyway, what happens when the signal is not good? They gonna ask Open Net to redo the cable again? :o

Anyway, I was a little worried at the way they handle the cables. They twist and turn it, and sometimes the cable get caught between the cover of the trunking as they are hammering on it to close it. :s22:

You want to bet your installation signal will experience high loss?

Why did not you insist to see the reading, just tell them you only get to see ONCE in your life? So difficult? And tell them no see strength signal = no sign = they lan lan cannot do anything.

These bangala know how to mate our maids, but cannot do a job properly? WTH?

Most probably. I'm waiting for a call from OpenNet side. High loss the installation will be aborted as there is no point in installing. You won't get connection at all after installing.

Anyway just to ask what is the acceptable strength ? Previously I didn't check. :(

Ya sia. OpenNet should make sure those bangalas check that the installation meet the requirements and show it to us before leaving.

Starhub dude told me this is quite a common issue. That says a lot about the quality of work done. :(
Wasting everyone's time man. :(

I am a little worried about it cause the post cabling clean up was a pain. Hoping I don't have to go thru it again. :o

I think I recall seeing someone posted here saying acceptable range between -19 to -20. Smaller the number, better the strength.

I was trying to checking out what the guy was measuring, but did not manage to see any number displayed on that contraption that he was using. Haha. :s13:

1 black cord inside got 2 fiber blue n orange color. They will splice both in ur tp box. Blue = port 1 Orange = port 2

So ur picture is showing 2 ports open?if one port, we can only see either blue or orange? Techinically why if change isp, must change to different port?

No la.... all opennet contractor will splice port 1 and 2 in ur TP box. But at the riser side port 2 nv splice. Cos the planner assign 1 unit 1 fiber only.... thats y the bangala cannot test port 2 for u all.
