Better camera also need better SoC for better processing and i think newer SoC has better technology for that but i think Poco also cripple some of the function cos the SD7+ Gen 2 can take 4k60fps video but they disable it.
Don't think need that much better soc considering the same camera for the past 3 iterations

Not asking for flagship lah but just better than 3 iteration of the same camera which imo is not asking for much.

The gap between better than 3 year old camera and flagship is very big, surely got middle ground.
Only F4 & F5 is same cam from Omnivision. F3 is Sony IMX.

You can consider Xiaomi 13T lor, using IMX 707 but must prepare to pay $500+ to 600+ for it. :(

I already give up on Redmi & Poco having good camera with reasonable pricing.

Imo seems like this gap is niche, surprisingly as moi always thought ppl would find improvement for camera to be more useful than cpu.

Imo should keep same cpu for F4 and F5 but with better camera.

They either give you low end Dimensity processor with better cam or cui cam with better CPU for their Redmi models.

SD870 CPU is kind of obsolete already, so it makes sense for Xiaomi to change to SD 7+ Gen 2 which is the best mid-range CPU now.

Poco F3 and Poco F4 have the same CPU (SD870), Poco F4 has 64MP OmniVision OV64B40 main camera sensor, whereas Poco F3 has 48MP Sony IMX 582 main camera sensor. Not so sure if this counts as an upgrade or downgrade.

Maybe Poco F6 will have the same CPU as Poco F5 (Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2) but with an upgrade camera.

Hopefully their upgrade is not a gimmicky 200MP kind

Probably not but maybe 108mp hahaha

Well, they have OIS for F5 this year so it's an improvement in a way. There's 2 problems if they want to maintain the mid range pricing and yet still earn profits 1) Use older sensors which is cheaper or 2) Use new sensors but probably from Samsung cos they are cheaper alternative to Sony and that's the 108mp and 200mp (older) ones.

Older sensor from sony should still be better than newer samsung

no need better soc if not depending on AI for realtime processing. image quality not only depends on sensor but also lens & software as well.

Let's compare with other mid range phones with better camera (but also higher cost). Looks like they tend to use Sony camera sensors.

Vivo V29 Pro (Dimensity 8200 CPU)
https://www.fonearena.com/blog/407249/vivo-v29-pro-review.html

50MP camera with f/1.88 aperture, OIS, Sony IMX766 sensor, 4K 60 fps video recording

8MP ultra-wide sensor with f/2.2 aperture

12MP portrait camera with Sony IMX663 sensor with f/1.98 aperture, Aura light

50MP autofocus front camera with f/2.0 aperture, 4K 60 fps video recording

The Oppo Reno 11 Pro comes with a Sony IMX890 1/1.56-inch main camera sensor with OIS and 24mm focal length. There is a 32MP Sony IMX709 RGBW telephoto camera and an 8MP Sony IMX355 ultra-wide camera.

The Oppo Reno 11, on the other hand, gets a 50MP Sony LYT600 sensor with a 26mm focal length and OIS support. The rest of the sensors are the same as the Pro variant. Both phones have a 32MP front cameras.

Samsung Galaxy A54
https://www.techarp.com/mobile/samsung-galaxy-a54-camera-review/

The Samsung Galaxy A54 is the marquee mid-range smartphone for 2023, and it comes with a triple camera system at the back that consists of:

a 50 MP main camera, with f/1.8 aperture,
a 12 MP ultra-wide angle camera, with f/2.2 aperture, and
a 5 MP macro camera, with f/2.4 aperture
The 50 MP camera is a “downgrade” in megapixels from the Galaxy A53’s 64 MP camera, but image quality is better because it is built around the Sony IMX766 image sensor used in phones like the realme 9 Pro+ and Xiaomi 12.

The Sony IMX766 is a larger 1/1.56″ sensor, which offers a 25% larger pixel size of 1.0 µm (compared to 0.8 µm). The larger pixel size is important as it means each pixel can receive 25% more light, delivering better images, especially in low-light conditions.

If you are using it for playing games or surfing net watch videos get F5.

If you emphasize on taking better pics, get Nord 3.
