At what price point is f5 a good deal?
Think I missed the f4 at 200+ boat liao.

Or any other alternative?
Buying for elderly mom but basic use.
So entry level is enough. Or lower mid tier.
Thanks
entry level, can consider samsung a15, $178 street price
https://redwhitemobile.com/phone/samsung-a15-4-128gb/
g99 cpu, similar specs to poco m5, which seems to have disappeared from poco shopee or poco lazada

I read very scary reviews on the m3 thread.
X seems viable
But if 200+ can get f4, why pay the same for x?

hmm, maybe wait after F6 is launched, then hope F5 to reduce price to $200+

Wah

need to wait for "quite a while" for F5 to hit $200s mark wor

F4 iirc 6 mths after F5 series launched then reach $200 level

If chiu no urgent and can afford wait

then just wait it out lo

Is it worth waiting? It becomes cheaper because the os and security support lifespan also depreciates.

There are also other trade-offs like the storage option.

Last time, between S$270 Poco F4 6GB/128GB (SD870) and S$385 Poco X4 GT 8GB/256GB (Dimensity 8100), I chose to buy Poco X4 GT.

It seems to me Xiaomi is kind of raising the phone price slowly, even for the Redmi and Poco series.

To me around S$400 is a good option to go with and that is the budget I set for my purchase of mid-range Android phones (with 5G, NFC, >=8GB RAM, >=256GB Storage). I am not that paticular with the cameras, so Poco phones are a good choice now (previously I was more into Realme).

Then if it is okay to have some trade-offs, probably S$300 can still get a good mid-range phone.

Would still prefer if mid range the likes of poco etc will focus at least 1 line of phone for camera. Don't need updated cpu to simply watch yt.

If they raise too much I will abandon ship liao and move to their present competitors.

Right now mid-range Android phones with focus on the cameras will tend to have higher prices like S$600 and above, like Oppo Reno series, Vivo V series, etc.

Probably old version of Google Pixel phones (6a/7a) and Samsung Galaxy A54 (and up-coming A55) are better options if one want to have mid-range Android phones with better camera than Poco/Redmi.

If you talk about local versions with warranty, I think the general trend of mid-range phone price is going higher, at least for year 2023/2024.

That being said, I am not good at finding lobangs. If you can find good lobangs, then the above observation may not apply.

If you are willing to buy China version of Android phones, then the above observation may not apply as well. I only buy local versions myself.

Don't understand why though, surely camera modules aren't worth $200+(iirc poco f5 still uses the same camera as F3 too). Or is it lack of demand, ppl prefer high end cpu than camera?

Imo most ppl will benefit more from better camera.

Xiaomi wants the users who want good camera to go with Xiaomi series and not Poco series.

That being said, different people have different perception of an acceptable camera. For me my Poco X4 GT is acceptable.

That price gap though sheesh, at least make it competitive haha

Indeed.

For me since my budget for Android phone is only S$400, no need to look at Xiaomi series already. I prefer Poco than Redmi myself.

Realme used to offer a good alternative to Poco in Singapore but now they have only a few offerings after the closing of Poco Official Global Store. But then even Poco has less offerings in Singapore market now compared to previously.

Yeah moi don't understand why they keep pushing for better cpu (don't need much for YT) for that $400 price tier and keep reusing same camera for like 3 iterations. Surely camera modules cannot be that expensive right?

But coming from Samsung camp, I am very impressed by sd7+ gen2 with 5000mah. I am ok to forego the mediocre camera to stay with low selling price.

Idk both sd7+ gen2 and older chip like sd870 perform the same when watching YT. Prefer better camera.
Better camera also need better SoC for better processing and i think newer SoC has better technology for that but i think Poco also cripple some of the function cos the SD7+ Gen 2 can take 4k60fps video but they disable it.

There's no way they gonna put flagship or better camera and sell it cheaply. If not no one is gonna buy their flagship models every year. It's all about profit.

Not asking for flagship lah but just better than 3 iteration of the same camera which imo is not asking for much.

The gap between better than 3 year old camera and flagship is very big, surely got middle ground.
