not sure how DBS determine the value yet for their diff cards cos it's quite new that DBS stop doing charity, last time is a sure charity. usually should have a min spend in their system to determine the immediate waiver if requested. that's at least for the other banks la.

There is no good ending for people who can't afford it, since either the forced spending or annual fees will cause them to go further into debt.sidetrack a bit, this is not just bank, even fairprice which is close to government or ntuc is also asking people buy more, like disc if buy 2 piece, and spend $400 / month for more points+1.
From the bank's perspective, it makes most sense if customers put some regular spend on a card.
What crosses the line are Obnoxious Crappy Banking Corporations that insist that customers spend a minimum sum to get their annual fees waived.

the thing is for banks to earn from it (like an extra bonus for them), if ppl don't ask for waiver. and when cust don't notice annual fee (especially nowadays all e-bills) then late fee interest fee occurs. I rem a colleague come to me asking me to borrow money i asked why. she said she didn't pay her bills (not annual fee related) cos she forget to check her bills when the email came and chucked it aside. Every few months the bank still nicely called her but she did not pick up the phone thinking it was spam calls. Until one fine day somehow she picks it up and bank told her it's been 11 months and she had to pay 11 months of interest and late fees. She was going to pay all and i advise her to ask for some form of waiver and she was surprised that was even possible. end up she paid and called bank, bank goodwill waived 6 months of the fees.

Wow that sounds like quite a bit of wasted spend, since the max you should be spending on it is $800 a month ($400 online, $400 contactless).

If after a few persistence tries with no positive outcome.... move on with your life, in this case, move on with another cc.
