Just checking what is require for handoffs to work?

1) Can iMac be on the ethernet (LAN) and no need to connect to Wifi? iPhone is on wifi sharing the same router as iMac
2) Does it require to pair the bluetooth for the iMac and iPhone in order to work? So far that cannot be done, it say device not supported on iPhone.

Please advise. Thanks

Has anyone managed to get continuity and handoff working without any issue? I'm using a mid 2012 mbp and an iphone 6 (both updated to Yosemite and iOS 8.1), but I can't seem to get anything working besides SMS relay and receiving and making phone calls via both devices.

I have done everything, ensuring both devices are using the same apple ID, signing out of my iCloud account and signing back in. Restarted both devices countless of times, disabling handoff and enabling it again. Also resetting my bluetooth settings that I read up on this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6602200 That's another issue; both my devices are always not connected despite pairing. I'm not sure whether it has been paired successfully or not, but I can Airdrop files from my MBP to my iPhone but not the other way around.

I spent the whole of yesterday, reading forums and going through every possible solution to get my handoff to work, but to no avail. If anyone has a solution, that would be wonderful. It has been very annoying.

anyone can confirm if the message's handoff is working?

strange thing is if compose new message, the handoff would not work. if select existing message then the handoff is working fine.

other findings:
1. pages, numbers and keynote handoff will only work with the document open from iCloud drive.
2. sometimes the mac wake up from sleep will not handoff from iPhone to Mac, but it is ok the other way round (Mac to iPhone)
3. Instant hotspot will not work, turn on-off the bluetooth sometimes can solve the problem.

conclusion is the Apple "whole thing just works" is getting b***s*** lately.

Don't use pages, numbers, but for 2 and 3, no issue

btw, anyone managed to get SMS forwarding to work? tried to enable it on my iPad, iMac and MBP, but i don't see the verification code come up on any of those devices. turned them all off and on, made sure BT is on, all devices are using the same Apple ID and on the same wifi network, but no success. telco is SingTel btw, one of my friends manage to get it working..

iOS 8.1: 'Text Message Forwarding' Activation Requires iMessage Email Address - Mac Rumors

On the Macrumors, there are people didnt have the verfication code send. something about email not been setup correctly. U might want to try this.

For the Hadnoff to work it require to have bluetooth 4.0 and the same itune ID to be sign on the device. There is no need to pair. But it something of hit and miss. U have to leave the bluetooth on all for your device. Mine 80% working.

managed to 'fix' the windowserver 50% cpu heavy usage.

if u r running dual displays, shut down first.
unplug the second display and boot up.
once yosemite up and running, plug in 2nd display.

now, windowserver will hover ard 20% or below.

not a permanent fix because if restart with dual displays, the high cpu usage returns.

saw this article below dat some audio software will cause some issues and a fix is provided.

Did a clean installation of Yosemite on my Macbook Pro 11,3
When I try to hook up my Macbook via the HDMI port to my school's projector this happens.

System Preferences and the UIServer will start to memory leak until the whole mac freezes.

I've tried a PRAM reset, repairing of permissions.

Anyone has any idea?

Issue happens in Safe boot as well?

Clean install, but you migrated the data back as well right? because it looks like there are some 3rd party apps installed.

If you have any spare portable HDD or thumbdrive, try doing a clean install of OS X Yosemite on that to isolate software.

Hardware troubleshooting, you can try reseating the RAM from the logic board.

Just done a upgrade to Yosemite, so far so good, all hand off can work (mail, sms and safari), though getting used to the cartoon icons, i noticed a considerably drop in the temperature of my mac, on mavericks i am easily at 90degress but now I'm hovering at 55 which is superb!

Am on MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)
