Anybody has any recommendations for a 3-IN-1 home printer?

Basically I need it to be able to scan, photocopy and print.

Would prefer a laser one that's not too big.

So i brought this fuji m225 dw printer. It says the first cartridge is about 1.1k pages, but after printing 400+ it's out of ink liao o.o....

Depends on what you're printing. The estimated print yield is usually based on like 5% coverage. The page that they use for testing looks like this:

If you're printing content with heavier coverage (more text/graphics) then will use up faster.

Monochrome toner cartridge yield test

This test (ISO/IEC 19752) uses a standard test page with about 5 percent coverage. The test page is printed continuously until the cartridge is empty (indicated by an “out of ink” message from the printer or discoloration on the test page).


How does ISO page yield differ from actual page yield?
Because customers are unlikely to replicate the precise conditions of the ISO test’s controlled environment, actual page yields will vary. Factors of actual use (like page coverage, room temperature, single vs. double-sided printing) cause this variation.

While ISO page yield may not be an accurate predictor of exactly how many pages your cartridge will yield, it’s still a reliable way to compare competing products, since all tests are subjected to the same set of ISO testing standards.

Went online and checked that the DocuPrint M225dw model is similar to the M115w except that it comes with Auto Duplex. Any comments about this printer? Or is there a better deal that I should be looking at?

Delivery is at $7.50 though.

Starter catridges which comes with the printer are usually half filled only.

I just measured this M225DW packaging box at the store. it's about 60cm x 50cm x 50 cm. I think it would be very difficult to carry on bus/Mrt.

I got this printer anyways.

To avoid disappointment of future buyers, it does not do 2-sided to 2-side copy from the ADF.
It can only do 1-sided to 2-sided copy from the ADF.

Those looking at fujixerox printers better think twice. My current set, drum not even 60% ultilised and I am forced to change it. Even though it is under warranty, fujixerox insist it is normal even when the on site technician said he has never seen a replacement for such low count.

He also confirmed that the drum uses a "hard" counter which determines the lifespan. Once count is hit, have to replace regardless of the current condition of the drum. No way to override. Drum cost is like 50% of the printer.

Recently the Fuji Xerox CSO told me that when I need to print pages with toner-heavy content, I need to select "Lightweight Cardstock" instead of "Plain" for the paper selection. He said that the setting makes the printer use a higher temperature so as to fuse the toner better to the paper.

What do u think ah?

It's should be true. If you have solid blocks of image/toner, logically a higher fuser temperature will help with toner drop off. Though I also believe it's just a precaution and you should see negligible difference unless your printer is quite worn down or using non-genuine powder.

What's your concern?

My problem (before the setting) was that the toner did not stick to the printout entirely and so is somewhat smudgy.

Btw how should I test the entire printing space? By printing an entire page full of black?

Drum problem.

But I used the Lightweight Cardstock selection, seems to have solved the problem leh.

How can I get the CSO to change the drum?

Don't think it's your drum. Simply the fuser not hot enough, paper too thick or toner powder got problem. Print full page only black, c,y,m. See if you can narrow down to which color or all got problem.
